Contained Road Rage: Driving Stories

There is no “different route” where I live. Motorists *do* have more of a right to be on roads that are there for driving and don’t have bike lanes.

Slowing down to 20 miles/hour, on account of entitled cyclists is not something that I appreciate. How would you like slowing down to 40 miles per hour on the autobahn to “enjoy the view?” I don’t think you or others would respond kindly in that scenario.

Why does your gas-guzzling death machine give you a special right to advocate violence against people who enjoy exercise, fresh air and beautiful scenery? Think about it, it's actually an appalling attitude to hold.

Specious argument. The requirement to slow down on the Autobahn is almost exclusively the result of the excessive presence of other motor vehicles, their occupants' inability to drive them sensibly, and/or roadworks. This is something I accept as the cost of my privileged position in being able to participate in motorised personal transport - and I do, in fact, slow down and enjoy the view if circumstances force me to do so, funnily enough :ROFLMAO:

If you think I was literally advocating violence against anyone, you are taking my (obviously) non-literal statements literally. Perhaps, you think “The Kraken” is a literal octopus…

There are hundreds of miles of bike paths in the area, so plenty of options to “enjoy exercise, fresh air, and beautiful scenery,” without impeding the flow of traffic and creating unsafe driving conditions - even if I do my part and don’t pass cyclists around curves, there is nothing I can do to prevent drivers going in the opposite direction from doing the same.

Stop it. Both of you.

People are allowed to vent their frustrations here. Do not correct them on that. It's disrespectful.
Well, I'm having fun…
Sorry if any of the rest of you are struggling.

I'll enjoy you explaining why my frustration at entitled motorists whining about having to slow down sometimes is somehow less valid than that of the poor little cry-baby car drivers. How about you try getting on a bike and finding out what it's really like?

^Throw 'em into the ravine and leave 'em to the mountain lions?
Yes, an offhand joke because it exhibits what seems like a DAILY frustration for them, not just SOMETIMES. It's also a humor thread.

Why are you personally offended.

And again, you're creating a strawman, because he's not talking about people that are commuting that are doctors and lawyers and teachers. You're shifting the context. These are people that bike for fitness and sport because the mountain roads are more dynamic and in areas where more and more homes are popping up in mountainous regions in the U.S. then they also have routes closer to home. There are bike routes in the nearest city that go into some of these areas but many bikers don't want to use these.

He's not whining about the regular commuter. He's not talking about all bikers. Youre framing it as though he has generalized all bikers. He's being very specific. And that's where you're getting it wrong. You're not understanding his context. I can say this because I agree with and advocate for bikers on the road, but I also understand the extreme inconvenience by @ommani personal experience.

When driving my tank there's always at some point a stupid little car honking because "they can't pass me", and I end up with a headache. I'm going to start suddenly stopping and letting them crash against me. Such entitlement is unbelievable, if they want to drive as they please they should just get a bigger tank than mine and get me out of the road smh.

Can you expand and tell me more. What is your "tank?" I'm assuming a tanker truck, long haul-vehicle, quite large and heavy?

Regardless, best start campaigning for better cycle facilities, then ;)

100% agree, and I hope that it's something on the agenda and radar for areas that have substantial cycle traffic for whatever reason they choose to cycle.
Just remember, for millennia we were limited to the speed of a galloping horse, or more likely our own legs if one were a member of the (majority) poor.

No one is forcing people to ride their bikes for fun (at a fraction of the speed limit) on mountain roads without a bike lane. Like I already said, even if I’m being perfectly patient and taking deep breaths while enjoying the view, there’s no guarantee that the person driving in the opposite direction will be doing the same.

Nothing that I've forgotten. But that was then, this is now, and that's why I framed my statement the way I did.
Our environment conditions what we adapt to. We live in a world now where in many areas, inside a rat race, one depends on their vehicle to preserve time.

And we're certainly not talking about the poor or people that do this by necessity exclusively in anyway which has been mentioned several times.
