Could it be degrading?

Has SIWY ever noticed that it seems like DMT degrades over time? SWIM came back to some very clean spice that he made in the first of the year. SWIM turned most of it to salt, but left around a gram or so of freebase. When SWIM first made it, the stuff was quite clean tasting. Months later, it doesn't feel great in the lungs and a nasty numbness sets into SWIMs lips. He doesn't remember that before. SWIM has lost all confidence in this stuff and will probably go to a FASW extraction at some point.

Is it possible that the spice degrades (chemically) with time? SWIM isn't saying it got weaker (it didn't) - but that it got nastier.

the most likely reaction to occur is to turn into n-oxide.. if thats the case, it could be reverted back to dmt using zinc dust. Some people even prefer n-oxide for some reason, but other people say that old spice makes the trip more negative.. maybe self suggestion ?

I dont know what other things spice can degrade to, maybe other members will have more knowledge

Heat and oxidation can both cause DMT to "degrade" to DMT n-oxide. You can avoid this by storing your spice in a freezer in an airtight container. However, if you do this, when taking the container out of the freezer for use, allow the container to come to room temperature before opening it, in this manner you can prevent condensation from forming. I'm not sure if DMT to DMT n-oxide is technically a depredation, esp. because so many people report qualitatively better experiences with dmt n-oxide.

Additionally, I'm almost 100% sure you can run a standard recrystallization on that "degraded spice" and seperate the dmt n-oxide out (it'll be in that bottom gooey layer) and play around with that by itself. SWIM suggests separating the n-oxide and allowing it to dry out and giving it a shot so that SWIY can see if he finds the effects enjoyable or not.

SWIM has also experienced varying levels lip numbness with a range of spices through a variety of administration methods and he does not believe it is a direct result of whatever chemical process happened to SWIY's spice.
