crown chakra tattoo

hello nexians,

was putting a fair bit of thought about getting the crown chakra tattooed on my body.

a couple things that I wanted some opinions about (you can be completely for or against it)

1.) Placement- I'm not going to get it on the top of my head, I was thinking about on my foot, some people will absolutely bash this, others may not. I would like to hear your input on the matter.

2.) Color- I was thinking about going with that light purple tone that is USUALLY associated with the crown chakra.

3.) Om- At the center in the circle I was also debating getting the Om symbol.

I'm attaching an image of what I want the crown to look like (very lotus-y).

I want only the OUTLINE of it and not filled in with color.

Really, I know a tattoo is a personal thing, but I do seek the opinions of you all, it always means a lot to me and I always take your words into account.

I think its a pine cone from a bird eye view resembling the pineal?
Anyway i think if i was ever to get a physical tattoo, it would be along similar lines to what your doing.

I think the outline of this picture, not being filled in would look fantastic if done in UV ink under a UV lamp it would look amazing.

If you feel getting the tattoo will help you in any way, then go for it.

The Om symbol directly apply's to the crown chakra aswell so it makes sense.Although the tatoo may look better without it in my opinion ,seeing as a Lotus has far less misinterpreted associations than the Om symbol if that makes sense. If you don't get the symbol on it, your mind will associate the symbol with it anyway.

i kinda like the idea of it being on the foot too. Symbolically bringing the space between Crown/petal and root 'closer' together.

Just be sure to find a good tatooist who specializes in sacred-geometric work. nothing worse than a badly drawn tattoo.

And toppy, it's not a pinecone, it's a Lotus. You find sacred geometry and the golden ratio Φ all across nature as im sure you're probably aware of. The form is almost irrelevant i guess. It's the driving and binding force behind it that holds the significance.

I was definitely leaning towards not having the symbol just for that same reason, less misinterpretation. I don't want people bugging me asking if I'm hindu and bashing me if I say no, if they see just the lotus I'm sure I'll hear more
"oh it's cool"

I definitely will find a great tattooist! My friend got the flower of life on his arm and it came out very geometrically sound, I will probably use the same guy.

The thing with tattoos is that you are 100% in control of what they mean and what they embody- so yes, you can put a crown chakra on your foot. On the other hand, as a tattooist with 23 years experience, I would advise caution when it comes to putting something that symmetrical and geometric on your foot, which is about as geometric as a tree root. Normally when someone asks me for a circular motif, I encourage them to put it somewhere relatively flat and symmetrical, like the center of the chest. On the foot is is likely to look warped and distorted.

The foot would be a great place for an om, however... Flows just right. I know a lot of people with oms- I have one on my finger, out in plain sight- and nobody to my knowledge has ever been harassed about being non-Hindu. Could be a good conversation starter. The worst thing is simply having folks ask why you have a big number three tattooed on you.

Another thing worth mentioning: no matter how skillfully the piece is applied, there's no such thing as a perfect tattoo. Linework in particular will degrade- over the years, parts will fatten and parts will drop out... Reality of the medium. If you are willing to include some gradients in the piece, that goes a long way toward hiding those inevitable imperfections... Linework-only tattoos will show their flaws the most easily.

Oh yeah, one last thing: the foot hurts. A lot.

Guyomech, thank you so much for the experienced advice. My foot top is pretty flat though, but I know you know better. Is it the surface underneath that effects it? My other option was to put it on the upper arm where most tattoos go. Those are honestly the only two places I'd want it. But I really want the foot most.

I also want it to not stretch or change too much if my arms get bigger that's what I'm worried about. The foot seems to be done growing, but who knows.

And how bad does the foot hurt not really worried about the pain, but I guess it's good to know.

The issue isn't so much with the lumpiness of the foot as it is about its asymmetry... Arm has the same problem; easy to end up with something egg shaped instead of round, based on how it wraps around the body part. If you keep it small enough, the foot should be fine.

And pain shouldn't be a factor in your choice- just a word of warning. My feet are both tattooed solid and I lived to tell the tale. Try bringing a bottle of Bactine along, and once the stencil has been committed to skin, you can spray down the area and let it sit for a couple minutes... Definitely takes the edge off. 400-600mg ibuprofen also good. Decent night's sleep, no hangover, remember to breathe. You'll be fine.
