Cybs Salt Tek Question

Migrated topic.
It might and it might not. It is probably suboptimal to substitute sodium hydroxide with sodium carbonate, since the causticity of the lye helps to break down plant matter and free up alkaloids. I am not sure if carbonate has the same kind of efficacy.

Also, since step three calls for the addition of acetic acid, adding sodium carbonate in a later stage would cause considerable foaming due to CO2 gas release.

^^^ What he said...

Also you need to reach at least pH11 at the base stage and I doubt that Carbonate is upto the job.

And, of course, it will no longer be my tek but a carbonated mangling/abomination ;)

CYB, got another question for you. Want do you think about trying to salt-in during the acid stage? Idea would be to use low concentration salt to increase DMT solubility and pull the actives out of the plant material more effectively. Then when basing, up the salt concentration to help the DMT move out of the water as usual.

Also, what about using other ions in the Hofmeister series to increase the salting-in/out effects? Ammonium Sulfate seems like an interesting option.

And thank you so much for your TEK. It was part of how I achieved personal growth in my life. Many humble thanks. Also, apologies if this has already been discussed/tried.

Acid Stage is only there to help break/lyse cell walls and increase the efficiency of dragging the compound out of the bark in salt form.
Adding salt at this stage will change the properties of the acid ... it may help with the lysing process - I don't know.

The addition of salt at base stage is there to increase the ionic strength of the mixture and so push more compound into the solvent at a faster rate. (which is the goal)

You can try it but I don't think it will do much.

Some Questions on Cyb's Hybrid A/B salt Tek: ACRB

Acid Phase:
• I've used 60ml Phosphoric Acid - food grade (85+%) instead of vinegar. I had a PH then of about .68 in the 260ml solution at room temp. I added more natural spring water and got the PH up to around 1. However, now my aqueous volume is around 600ml. Have I screwed the pooch early in the game? I am into my third hour soaking it from very warm to room temp and back to very warm.

• is PH 1 too acidic?

• Is there something other than following the rest of the Extraction instructions to a "T" that I should consider doing?

thank You for any insight. I am a newbie Learner here...

you should still be able to save this without much trouble AFAIK you can continue into the base step from here but you will need to add more base to get to the proper ph (12-14 i think going from memory) as long as you end up at the correct ph you should be fine to pull into your NP solvent

in the future if using something other than Vinegar make sure to adjust the amount you are using to get the correct overall ph regular vinegar is 5% acetic acid so as you can guess using the same volume of Phosphoric acid at 85% you are making a much more acidic solution than what you should have been aiming for

Also the overall liquid volume should not matter as long as you are getting the right Ph

Hope this helps good luck
