CYB's Tek... 1L Glass bottles he uses, where to get them??

In CYB's tek he uses these 1L glass bottles instead of 1L mason jars. Both seem to work fine, but there is less surface area in the 1L glass bottle as opposed to the jar which would make your separated naptha layer taller and thus easier to siphon off with out sucking up the toxic layer. I am going to use the mason jar for now, but would like some of these bottles kicking around too.. Everything I can find where I am in in canada, is too small(591 ml) or has too small of an opening, or is plastic.
Anyone have any ideas where one would be able to obtain these 1 L Glass bottles with the Snapple/Apple juice style lid?

funny you mention this.. was also looking for a bottle of similar size. found a olive oil glass bottle.. should work perfect.
maybe you should try a grocery store

I actually got this one in the UK at a dollar store, it had juice in it.
I would suggest hunting around your supermarkets...
Even a clear glass wine bottle with a screw cap would work well, if you had a thin enough pipette to pull with.

:lol: I was trying to find one for swim these past 4 days and nothing. Right now, swim is doing Cybs tek on a wide mouth mason jar and is having trouble siphon Naphtha (took 1 hour for first pull). Right now Naphtha is in the jar but won't be able to do second pull till a few hours. Would that be okay? Swim also has it resting in a warm bath.

As long as the naphtha 'touches' all the lye...it's good....I do 4 rounds of shake/roll and seperate...then pull.

Suck out the nap and a bit of the base and put it in a small tall glass...it will be easier to separate...the last tiny bit of nap can stay in the mix till the next pull.

Its just that swim ended up using a wide jar. Where after siphoning half the Naphtha, the second half gets pulled with base.

you could complete the extraction.. then take your contammed spice and put it in a shot glass with clean naphtha.. then the base/impurities will sink to the bottom. pour it off or use a eye dropper to put it on a glass baking dish and freeze

Thanks for the replies, I do have some tall shot glasses laying around, if i end up sucking up some toxic sludge ill let it re-separate in one of those!

Before I bought proper flasks I used glass vinegar bottles. They were tapered at the top and very nice for decanting after I dialed in my volumes to fit the bottles.

I have an erlenmeyer flask on the way, but with no lid, got it just for mixing. what sort of lid do you use on yours?

Added the first Naptha pull to the mixing jar, and Cyb's tek reports separation within an hour... i agitated mine for 30-45 seconds and put it back in the heat bath and it separated within 5 minutes. Is this normal? Should I continue to repeat the agitation/separation four more times?

EDIT: now after agitating it again, it is taking longer to separate, maybe I didnt do it efficiently the first time... I will do 4 more agitations after this one.

This is normal...I included the length of the separation of 'upto' 1 hour as on 'some' occasions (especially the first saturation), separation can take a bit of time to occur.

The norm is a few minutes to separate...

If it takes some time...don't worry, it will.
If it is pretty quick...that's great.

After your 4 rounds of agitation you can pull.
(4 rounds gives the spice ample chance to migrate to the non polar solvent)
