Defatting question

Hi. I’m new here and i'm going to try my first extractions (they will be done at the same time) with:

• Phalaris arundinacea
• Phalaris tuberosa
• Phragmites australis (wiki says it contains some dmt, worth a try)

I can easily harvest kilos of those plants that’s why I want to try at least a couple of extractions before switching on mhrb.
In the last days I spent quite some time reading teks here and there, searching the most common reagents and solvents, but I have some problems getting a good np solvent, so I’m stuck with acetone (I’m going to use vinegar as acidifier, sodium carbonate as base and acetone as solvent).
The problem is that I can’t use acetone for the defatting process (necessary with phalarys) since it mix with the water and from what I heard dmt-acetate is soluble in it.

I’m not even sure acetone is good for defatting, but if it do not take away the dmt in the plant it’s better than nothing, since i read that it's used for some defatting.

The question is can I defat the plant powder pouring acetone directly on it before the acidification step or would that make the dmt in the plant go into the acetone together with oil and fats?

And in the case dmt-acetate isn't soluble in acetone, can i do a defat in a completely dry acidified mixture?

Please keep in mind i'm not really into dmt extraction and i know very little chemistry.
If i'm ever going to do this i'll post my results.

Just be aware that phalaris has other alkaloids in it. Some of which make you feel paralyzed. I have not personally tried it but the member Jamie has and reported undesirable effects.
As for defatting, there are defatting teks in the wiki. I was having trouble finding it though. But it is there.

Have you tried DMT before? If you haven't, then I would suggest ordering mimosa and doing an easy tek to get some smokable product. Have an experience and see if you like it. Some go through a huge mess to extract something wild like Phalaris, then later get freaked out during a DMT trip and are scared to go back in. Mimosa, I have heard is soft (kind of) on you. Paralaris on the other hand is not. You can always do phalaris after (tons of it!).

Hey thanks for the advices, this would be SWIM first dmt experience indeed.... SWIM had many other expercienecs with lsd and psilocibes but never with dmt.

"Festi & Samorini 1994 - Ayahuasca-like effects obtained with Italian plants" reports that in italy there is the highest dmt concentration phalaris, SWIM is italian and have to possibility to start the extraction right after the harvest.

I'm going to try this on phalaris anyway, but i really appreciate the advices. Thanks

Ah, i found naphtha, so defatting is a problem no more.
