Migrated topic.
Early in my extraction days after stumbling across that old pdf, I trudged down to the river and spent a whole day digging up rhizomes with a shovel (this is actually incredibly difficult). I tried a standard a/b extraction on something like 300g of rhizome and ended up with nothing at all. I could chalk it up to the fact that I was a very inexperienced extractor or that my local variety just may not have the correct alkaloid profile or what have you. I will say this, I don't intend on ever going back to the river and digging up rhizomes again, ever! That pdf mentions phragmites rhizomes being available in chinese herb stores as "lu-gen" if I am to ever try working with phragmites again it's going to be via that route lol.

I do believe this source deserves further study if anyone has access to an herb shop with lu-gen or if anyone is willing to put in the effort to harvest this plant. I would be wary of cultivation seeing as it is such an invasive species.

I wanna see more on this aswell. grows like crazy here. Needs a good special tek though due to it may contain 5 meo and gramine and some other stuff. Would love to see a good try. Would totally be worth in the future using the roots. would be hell to dig up those roots thoug, but hopefully a couple of kg would be enough :P
