Sucks to see so backwards notions. Iran has very similar policies to homosexuality as well. Is homosexuality strongly associated with HIV in Uganda? HIV prevention could have been the mindset behind such a legislation (even though safe sex has the same effects and also works for heterosexuals).

A provoking viewpoint i've heard tossed around is the idea that Homosexuality is directly against the evolution of the species. The concept being humans must procreate to survive as a species, homosexual's must therefor be a genetic flaw as they cannot prolong the race.

In counter to this we live in the age of science changing breeding trends. We have more then enough offspring, so maybe evolution chooses homosexuality to balance the species in times of over breeding?

All that being said, fundamentally the concept is sickening, as long as they are not harming others, no one has any right to be choosing what others do or how they live.

And recently, the Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament vowed to pass this dangerous legislation before the end of the year, calling it "a Christmas gift."

Jesus Christ. Would not approve.

Way to celebrate his birthday. I almost wish he would come down to earth and pull some south park style whoopass like in the "scause for applause" episode.

But silliness aside, wow. I knew the attitude towards homosexuality in some parts of africa was bad, but this is rediculous. I guess the world will never be rid of genocide.

This is terrifying.

Homosexuality is 100% normal, it's just that it is that for approximately 10% of the human population. It has occurred down through history, across cultures and across species. There is NOTHING wrong with it. It is not prevalent enough to affect human reproduction rates and even if all the hate filled horrible people kill off all the gays, there will still be a bunch of (10%) new gays waiting in wombs to be immediately born. It cannot and should not be stopped. This kind of legislation and ignorance and fear based mentalities terrify me and make me want to vomit.

This video just occurred to me

even though it is hilarious in its own respect just for being so dumb it underlines the attitude of many Ugandans (as dictated by missionaries) towards homosexuality...

My thoughts exactly. They just don't know any better. Missionaries go to poorer countries and talk about where they come from and their religion, and the people there see christianity as a sign of modernity and as the cause for certain nations' wealth and prosperity. And so there are so many third world countries that are rushing to christianize so that they can catch up with the rest of the world.

That view is probably a misconception, but it seems possible to me.

I find it hard to believe this is actually happening. Wow....

If Homosexuality was a genetic flaw, then in the process of evolution, it would have been selected naturally for elimination. (Like the tails we had at one time)

Homosexuality has been around throughout recorded time...

I am pretty sure it was around while we were living in trees...

To say this is sickening is an understatement...

Our Government (U.S.) intervenes into other Countries business for alot less than this, so I can't imagine they would sit around and let something like this happen....

...of course I may be giving the Government too much credit here.

It all depends on the context; deciding on what drives evolution on the basis of what supports procreation of a species alone shows a narrow-minded perception of the Evolution Theory. Homosexual intercourse obviously does not produce progeny but that doesn't mean that it impedes evolution of species as a whole.

Well... First I thought the video was a joke, a staged event showing how stupid and irrational a homophobia can get. Second, I laughed. Only later I realised this was probably not meant as a joke... :shock:

Concerning the "genetic flaw" discussion. To my knowledge there is no scientific evidence showing that homosexuality has its source in genetic information. Nobody has found the "homosexual gene" so far and IMO will never find any...
