Did QT tek, got good? results, Not sure.

Ok, so a friend of mine came across QT's tek and tried it out (now we know it's not held in high regard here, but he already did it). The first try was way off and was thrown away. The second try turned out good, he thinks. He used 25g MHRB, muriatic acid, Zippo lighter fluid and drain cleaner (draino, he thought it would be ok as it had sodium hydroxide as the main ingredient), following the tek exactly. Left out the defatting part as the tek said it wasn't necessary with MHRB. At this point it's dried completely, leaving a whitish/yellowish bunch of tiny crystals formed around the edge of the baking pan and some in the bottom, along with brown goo. The goo and crystals were scraped out and placed in plate to separate out the dried goo. The larger chunks were crushed to make a powder.

My friend was left with 2 grams of a now powdered crystal-ish substance (kind of looks like shiny, sparkly white sand). It seemed like too much so he asked me to check it out. I suspect that the yield is too high due to one of the chemicals used in the process, although I'm not sure which one, from what I've read here it seems like lye. I advised my friend not to smoke it until the issue is cleared up.

What could it be, and how does he get rid of it?

Sure you don't mean 250g MH? If you did, then things would be OK...If you mean 25g then you've def. got wrong product there.If it's the former try dipping a knife in some and heating with a lighter; if it melts and vapes and smells lovely you're on track:)

Definitely 25g of MHRB. I read on this board somewhere to burn up a piece with the blue part of the flame. If it turns yellow for second you've got lye. Well it turned yellow for a second, so I guess that's the answer. But he'd just like to be sure. If it is too much lye which way should he clean it?

And what does "lovely" smell like? :)

Put a tiny bit (TINY bit!) on your tongue. Have a cloth soaked in vinegar ready.

If it burns like all hell (DMT will naturally burn a tiny bit, but lye will literally hurt like nothing else) wipe your tongue off with the vinegar.

Yeah, I know, that's not all of it, just some for the pic. My friend weighed on a tenth of a gram accuracy scale so he can't be too sure of exactly how much, but the container it was in weighed 10g on it's own and after it was full of DMT like powder it was 11.9 - 12g, so it's at least 2g of powder.

It definitely doesn't burn, it tingles just ever so slightly. Tastes neutral. No, tastes almost sweet, but slightly acidic (not exactly acidic but I can't think of another word).

Should he try cleaning it somehow?

There's a darwin award winner in him yet ! .. Go ahead, smoke up a big hit, and tell us what you've learned ..>! You gotta learn somehow, no..? ... just kidding ... throw it all out !

For 25g MHRB you'd get a MAX yeild of 250 mg or 0.250g ... most likely you'd expect about 187mg (0.75%)... Practice with 150g MHRB - it'll yeild 1.0g dmt very easily. Measure your pH, filter well and understand each step each time you try a tek. I agree there's no need to de-fat with MHRB. Get good MHRB, pulverize it, and acidify to pH 2.0 when first solubilizing the dmt, then basify to 11.5.

Keep trying grasshopper !

People who prefer not to poison themselves ask before using chemicals other than those specified in the tek.

You said explicitly that he was aware there was other stuff in the Draino. Does he know what this other stuff is? Why wasn't he concerned about this ending up in his product? These are questions that ought to be thought through before doing any kitchen chemistry.

The only reason he isn't going to be in next year's Darwin awards is because he didn't smoke it.

but yeah, sounds like you or your friend need to trash that shit ASAP. just use the marsofold tek if you want a/b and noman's if you want stb. and dont substitute unless the people on here say its ok. these people know more than you or I. if you use noman's tek, you can find everything you need at lowe's, home depot, and the grocery store. dont substitute.

Thanks for the help guys, my friend appreciates it. He didn't know this board existed until yesterday. The QT tek is the only one he could find up until yesterday (and a couple of not so descriptive, badly written ones), and it does indeed say to use drain cleaner "but for our experiment we will be using NaOH found in household lye crystals (Red Devil drain cleaner) and purchased at hardware stores". Since no Red Devil could be found, he thought it was just a brand name and used different brand, since NaOH was still the main ingredient, but it didn't work out and led him to question it. But he ordered some pure lye yesterday and is going to try again. Thank you again. He will trying Normans tek this time.

Maybe the QT tek should be taken down or at least edited to be very clear that it needs to be pure lye (because that's not clear at all to a novice), I would hate to hear about someone making the same mistake as my friend but not questioning the results and actually smoking it.

Roebic drain crystals from lowes = pure Naoh also I agree some of the teks should be removed since they seem a little overly complicated

There's a lot in that thing that isn't clear to anyone because it either doesn't make sense or just plain doesn't work.
Here's another call to Erowid to stop discrediting themselves and to take that fucking nonsense (and Yoda's too while they're at it) down and put up a decent A/B.
