Good evening fellow space cadets, ive tried searching for an answer to this question but unfortunately have come up with a blank so here i am to pick your brains, basically im wondering if anybody has any experience of being under the influence of alcohol and then taking dmt? Good, bad or indifferent? As a Scotsman i like a beer, a cultural norm i made peace with many many years ago, probably to my livers detriment haha anyway my curiosity on partaking in dmt while under the influence of several beers beers stems from how i feel before taking dmt with no alcohol involved. My pre trip ritual always consists of about 10 minutes of clearing my mind and basically chilling the fuck out to almost the point of falling asleep, but there is always that slight tinge of apprehension and anxiety beforehand that i just cant seem to lose, however when a fair few beers deep and the urge to a take a trip enters my mind i feel no anxiety or apprehension whatsoever, so is it advisable to go ahead and take the plunge or ignore those drunken thoughts?

I will admit I enjoy telling certain people that some traditional groups do use alcohol and aya together…even mixing in sex…

Again not because I like alcohol but because I feel people have built up weird and unrealistic expectations of both other cultures and psychedelics.

Jonathan Ott has like entire works on the use of alcoholic psychedelic drinks in the americas.

So lol unless your calling entire indigenous groups losers…

If think it could be prudent to mention that the human body has incredible ability to adapt. Some people drink so professionally their whole lives that it appears the body learns to cope quite well. Then others get alcohol poisoning from three tequilas.

The question of alcohol use is so wide open, it seems unscientific to make any blanket statements about the consequences.

I don't drink currently. My grandfather died at 89 with a bottle of scotch in his hand. I'll wait to see if I make it to 89 before casting judgement

dmt + alcohol = good/bad?-

In my humble opinion it is bad, I think that alcohol is a depressant and DMT, in contrast, is a CNS stimulant in terms of its psychoactive effects. It increases brain activity, particularly in areas associated with perception and cognition. It just makes no sense to me personally if I were trying to shake the pre flight jitters I would take harmaline its very relaxing and interacts and enhances DMT.

Should I provide sources for something as obvious as the sky being blue?
Okay, here are some links:
  1. Effect of alcohol intoxication on the risk of venous thromboembolism: A nationwide retrospective cohort study - PMC
  2. https://alcohol.org/health-effects/blood-clots/
  3. The Hematological Complications of Alcoholism - PMC
You can conduct your own experiment: take a scope, stab your finger and drop some blood on a glass slide, then add a bit of alcohol and observe the platelets.
The articles you linked all talk about increased clotting as a risk factor for chronic alcohol use/abuse. Mild/moderate alcohol use is linked with reduced risk of clotting as it thins the blood. So if you're not a heavy regular drinker then the effects are probably more helpful than harmful, depending on how much you drink prior to DMT use.

Personal thoughts on Alcohol, and being someone who happens to know a lot about alcohol production, I'd personally avoid drinking more than 1 drink prior to DMT and steer away from taking DMT with any sort of hangover.
Alcohol does nothing but poison the body, the facts are in and the science is done, other than the beneficial social aspect of going somewhere and meeting people there isn't a good use of Alcohol in the human body for anything but sanitising the skin.

To qualify my agreement, alcohol is quite useful for producing extracts of plants where the substances of interest are insoluble, or only poorly soluble, in water alone. Must be why that dilute hop tincture is so popular, eh? 😁

Everything is a useful tool in the right hands. A long time ago some of the best psychedelic experiences I've had were eased into with a couple of beers. It wasn't my intention to use alcohol for that specific purpose but sometimes I would answer the call regardless. These days alcohol doesn't really enter into the equation.

I have vaped DMT after a full night out, still functional but at my personal limit. I was talked into it with another DMT loving friend but I bear responsibility for the decision to actually go ahead with it. I knew immediately I had made a mistake and I felt intense regret which quickly turned into fear. I came up against a huge web that my current self couldn't pass through. An unstoppable force meeting an immovable object. Luckily I'd inhaled enough to experience ego death. I split up into hundreds of tiny ecstatic jelly-baby like beings as I was forced through, fear became bliss as I became one with everything. I'm glad I got lucky, but I would never repeat it.

I think relying on alcohol to do anything is a bad idea. Especially psychedelics.

Please don't do any psychedelics with alcohol. If you must mix, weed is the one... or psychedelics with psychedelics...
Mmm... smoking herb after a 20mg dose of Foxy had my heart pounding out of my chest for over two hours. Quite uncomfortable... and alarming.

Taking Foxy + AMT was the second to worst combo I'd ever done; it had me and my buddy writhing non-stop on a pull-out couch in a friend's apartment while she got laid in the other room. But the absolute worst combo was Foxy + syrian rue. It was similar to the Foxy/AMT combo, but 1.5–2x stronger. I felt like my friend's dad who had Parkinson's disease: I was only 35%–50% in control of my muscles.

Before combining anything, you gotta do your research, then dose low. A crappy +1 experience is better than a medical emergency.

There seems to be a lot of responses and drama on this thread and I'd like to avoid that.

I also believe everyone has an individual response to things. So it's important to follow what works for you and be very honest with yourself. That's way more important than expert and other opinions in many contexts. This is just my personal dogma.

Mixing alcohol with spice does not work with a lot of people including myself. So as the sovereigns of our own bodies we don't do it. It's our choice.

But there are established long term members here like @Toshido for whom it works.

Being very honest with yourself please find what works best for you and go with that.

I would avoid combining alcohol and psychedelics, but in low doses, it could be probably helpful for its calming effects.
My experience with this combination is that it's strongly unpleasant, did it 2 times in my life and will not repeat it.
In general, any calming drugs do not go well with psychedelics for me.
