different people have reported different yields, and 2% may not always mean pure DMT but rather, an assortment of alkaloids akin to DMT, more commonly known as jungle spice, among them are active and inactive triptamines/indoles/etc that add up to a good time regardless, although they tend to make a mess and DMT is usually refined away from them, in MH aside from dmt-oxide which can be due to age/before it got to you, i believe those jungle spices should be minimal.
An example, im told acacia accuminata here is sometimes harvested somewhat early, and the immature trees do not posess quite as much DMT, and most literature reports are of wild-encountered trees, usually good specimens at that, or at least very deliberately typical/average so that the analysis results can be more relevant. MH that is farmed probably suffers from a similar phenomena.
Theres also just straight up skill and the tek itself. My prefference is a full spectrum pull, i want everything, my material is low yielding as it is, and needs cleanup no matter what, and then ill deal with refining my mass of goo and oil later with further processing of what probably wouldnt amount to more than an ounce of raw liquid that gives me a single drop of spice, but its complicated.
Many teks, especially beginner friendly ones, tend to perform the extraction in a rather specific and particular way, in which a small amount of yield is sacrificed, in exchange for a pure product which can be immediately, and directly, consumed.
I have been told to view it as, 1% is what is available for you to get, 2% is the theoretical limit, best quality bark + best quality technique will yield that 2%, but a beginner using random bark should expect 1% and aim for 1%, if they get less, somethings wrong, if they get a little more, great, but you cannot possibly afterwards know how much more there is to get, and so, it offers no viable learning experience and is not encouraged, just celebrated.
