dmt lost potency after a month. recoverable?

FLuffy white funfest produced about a gram of white and yellow potent waxy crystals. After a month,they have pretty much totally lost potency, and turned yellower. Stored in small containers, but not refrigerated. Have read that oxidation occurs, but also read that it does not affect potency much. What gives? Is a zinc powder de-oxidation called for, or is something else probably going on? Thanks

That sounds like a short amount of time to be losing much potency. I've had spice in a ziplock bag in a drawer for months without noticing too much of a difference in potency. I'd probably just wait a few days and then try vaping it again. Somedays you can do it and not have much happen then other days you can do just a little bit and get launched across hyperspace. I dont know exactly why this happens but from experience I know it happens from time to time.

It'd be quite an exceptional statement to say that dmt, after being stored in a closed container at room temperature "pretty much totally lost potency (sic)". Maybe if you live in an environment rich in acetic acid or hydrochloric acid fumes :d and dmt was in an open container I guess some dmt would be salted (making it far less active by smoking) but then again would not cause total loss of potency.

It could be that, sometimes, it may be harder to breakthrough, but nowhere as having absolutely no physical or mental effect whatsoever after vaping it. It'd pretty much mean that the whole dmt in the stash changed to another, inactive molecule and that'd be quite an extraordinary claim. So extraordinary that I'd love to know what dmt turned to, chemically speaking.

The yellowing is normal to see on dmt given time/temp/light and may or may not be oxidation. Zinc powder reduction could help reduce (i.e. de-oxidise) it. But the yellowing wouldn't make dmt noticeably less active.

Thanks for the replies. Perhaps I overstated, when I said "pretty much totally" lost potency. There is a huge loss of potency, though. There is a buzz, and brightening of colors, but that is it with a 30mg dose. At first, 20 mg was an intense experience, though fear prevented an effort to break through. Was working up to that. 40 seems to be a typical dose, so maybe you two are right, and the body is just reacting differently, and need to up the dose.

Two things to check lostinthecloud. smoking technique, is it the same as the last time you journeyed? I find that when you vape correctly you need far less so could be poor vapeing this time. Also scales, are they accurate? some times the amount of spice looks far more than what it actually weighs. I have had spice that looked like it was about 100mg compared to previous weighs but only weighed 15mg.
If you wanted to be completely confident in your spice you could re-ex it?

Kerberos: Weight is accurate with a calibrated scale. Technique is always possibly a problem, of course. For re-ex, just dissolve in warm naphtha, filter, then to the freezer?

Shot glass, warm naphtha in water bath (hot water in a bowl) 25ml for 1g. I wouldn't filter if you don't need to as you will lose a lot of spice in your filter paper. just let your spice dissolve and try not to stir just let it dissolve. You will see a slightly darker level on the bottom of the glass. Take off all the naphtha above this and transfer to clean shot glass and freeze precipitate.

Let the bottom layer evap and keep the residue, it may be oily it may be solid but it will be active:d

I have three "grades" of spice, White, off white and everything else. The everything else gave me my biggest breakthrough i have ever had:shock:

Like some on here i find the white difficult to work with.

I keep mine in little glass jars with my scales in the cupboard. Still good after a year, in fact i think it improves with age (just like me:roll: )
