I think that definitely happens. I actually remember some reporting here that they never remembered a dream until after their first psychedelic or DMT experience. Things like dream herbs, meditation, and melatonin also seem to have an effect.
And just because you don't remember them doesn't mean you aren't dreaming. Even at times when I could have writen pages of dreams in a morning, I could still sense that there is even more that I wasn't able to bring back.
I didn't dream very much at all until I was 22 or 23. Then my friend introduced me to the psychedelics. I didn't see a whole lot in my own psychedelic experiences initially. But after 2 or 3 times, I felt the urge to try it once more because I had a very, very vivid dream experience where a girl was sending orange energy to me. It felt like she was "unlocking" something. After the dream, I tried the psychedelic once more and BAM. It was a huge, mental experience like nothing I had ever had before.
This is why I'm a personal believer in the chakras. I don't expect many people to agree with me on this one because it's not very scientific. But it makes sense to me...and has ever since that experience. But regardless of that, one of my psychonaut buddies made an amazing metaphor to me once. Imagine a beach ball that's being pushed down into the water. Pressure builds up, and wants to launch the beach ball to the surface. The beach ball is you, and above the surface is consciousness. But yeah...you can definitely transition from barely dreaming at all to dreaming too much. It just takes time, and it depends on if that's what you really want.
I'm goning to try buying some dreaming pills and someday try dmt. Did you use dmt for your first psychedelic experiences?
