A friend of mine (whom I chastise regularly for his illicit activities) is about to start an extraction from acacia root bark. He also has a small sack of psychotria leaves, but not enough to warrant their own extraction. Would it be bad to throw the leaves in with the root bark? Like alcohol, does mixing spice from different sources have negative effects?

He isn't planning on making ayahuasca in the near future, and he has his own source of leaves. Would it be bad to mix?

You shouldnt have a problem. The only issue you will have it that you will have impurities from both materials comming along with the active ingredient during the extraction. You may want to focus a little more on purification at the end to reduce this but otherwise you should be ok.

Dimethyltryptamine is dimethyltryptamine, no matter what plant it is extracted from. It could, however, be impurities left over from the extractions, as vovin mentions. I can't see how that would cause any problems, though.

Yeh, I understand that DMT is DMT; I guess a more specific question is if the impurities from the two sources might clash; much in the same way that beer and wine don't go well together. It doesn't seem like there are any horrible anecdotes floating around, so SWIM'll go for it!

The probability that impurities would clash is slight in my view. The reason I said that you might want to focus on purification is because there's always a chance. Most people dont know enough about the chemicals in each plant to be able to definiatively tell you that it will or will not happen. It also relies on what tek you use since different extraction methods can result in different chemicals being left behind. To put it bluntly it's a crap shoot but the odds are stacked well in your favor. However as I said before purification would significantly reduce any chance of impurities and make it even safer.
