Drum and Bass / Jungle music

I remember this track generating a lot of discussion when it was released ; love and hate at the same time. I always loved it :

Wow, that was different! I like it, but I think I can see why it was a divisive release. BTW I think Brown Paper Bag may have been the first DnB/Jungle song I ever heard (Ready or Not by Aphrodite was up there too). It was probably around the late 90's/early 2000's when I first heard it, along with all the trip-hop artists that were popular at the time.

Kid Lib is something else, definitely a recommended jungle artist to check out.

In addition to Dead Man's Chest, this is another artist that is particularly resonating for me, and I like how prolific he is. I don't think I could articulate the exact different between jungle and dnb, but I can sort of pick up on the distinction between these related genres, which seem to bleed into each other.

Yeah, probably because it was a bit out of the standards of the time, highly controversial :D

New Forms was among the first drum'n'bass records I bought, alongside Adam F's Colours and Goldie's Timeless (Inner City Life was definitely the track that made me dive in the genre).

They go hand in hand, for sure. D&B seems to have a lot more electronic linearity and drive behind the force of the rhythm and beat, whereas jungle provides immense sampling and intelligent atmospheres that washes over, which keeps things interesting and less linear (chopped up breakbeats). Without the emergence and influence of UK techno and hardcore; its weird seeing where jungle music would have emerged from (besides reggae and soul).

Perhaps a bit too jazzy and slow for some people but I think this whole album by 4hero is a great drum & bass piece with outstanding class. I especially like the remixed versions, too.

Yeah I know them, I've got the 2B boxset (bought for a ridiculous price at the time, I miss the old days when records where cheap). Mo Wax on top !
Hell yeah! I used to own both comps on CD. Sold for $36 total. Figured why hold on to them after burning onto my computer. Would love to see the vinyl boxset one day.
