Came across this video recreating the first earthrise seen by humans orbiting the moon.

Interestingly, I think that to see an "earthrise" you need to orbit out of the "dark side of the moon" :)

During a new moon you would see a full earthrise when leaving the dark side of the moon. During a full moon, there would be a "new earth". I could be wrong, this is from musings on the nexus chat on and not verified 😉

Umbras in space can be deceptive. If one was in between, but close to, two umbras, say the moon's and earth's, both bodies could appear to be lit from opposite sides.


Also not sure if this is relevant to your post.
