Hey guys, I have done lots of lucid dreaming over the years by doing exactly the same techniques. They have to be practised lots though. I can get up to about 4-5 really good lucid dreams in a week when doing them but when I stop the practise I can go down to one every six months. Another good technique when lucid dreaming is, if the dream is starting to fade, look at something and stare at it intensly (a picture on the wall or your hands etc). This brings back the dream full on and you can manipulate your environment. My favorite dream test/reality check is trying to levitate something with my mind. In a dream it pops up every time. Once you have done that the dream is yours. I have flown and done aeronatical tricks, run at the speed of sound, walked through walls, changed locations by closing my eyes in my dream and opening them again and be where I wanted to be, exploded cities with a snap of my fingers. The possibilities are endless. Sorry for the rant but if there is one thing worth learning in life this is it. You never know it may even help you stay concious after death so you can unravel the mysteries. Take care good people.
