Hello all!

So SWIM already did a few extractions, and always goes for freeze precip.. The thing is, SWIM already did in different places so used different equipments, but never found the perfect one for scraping the spice from the freeze-precipitation container.. SWIM spends long time scraping to get most out, but there´s always quite a bit left, and SWIM knows there must be more efficient ways/equipment.

what have you guys found is the best way, both for the container and for the scraping tool, and whatever technique that might help?

you could go with noman's suggestion and use some weed to scrape it out :)

yes that is one possibility, also another of a similar style I guess would be pouring some alcohol to dissolve it and then putting some weed or whatever and letting the alcohol evap..

The thing is, SWIM is fond of knowing exactly how much he is smoking, he doesnt like to have some unknown amount mixed (evenly or unevenly) in some plant, so if anybody has some other way of getting the crystals themselves more efficiently off the container, speak out :)

(thanks for the suggestion, btw)

I use a mason jar to freeze precipitate and to scrape I simply use a butter knife. It takes a few minutes but I can usually get almost all of it out. If there is enough left in the jar to warrant it, I will use a very small amount of bestine to redissolve the remaining spice and make enhanced leaf or just let evaporate.

True! I'm a tad clumsy and would probably spill naphtha all over my freezer, floor, walls, and self if I used a dish....hence the mason jar.

really, you can reach the bottom and so on well with a butter knife? normally for SWIM most gets out, but SWIM feels that a considerable amount stays.. It´s like, the glass doesnt get back to (near)transparent after scraping, it stays with loads of these white lines marking the scraping, but these lines have quite a bit of spice (if SWIM stays like an hour scraping them, he can get some more out, but SWIM feels there must be a better way).. but maybe indeed the redissolving in the end is the best way..

maybe a flat baking dish is better.. but having such a wide surface area, dont you feel that it all gets spread out so much that you lose some? or with the razor blade you can really get it all (or almost all) out?

SWIM uses square labware pans or large (1-2k mL) beakers to FP. This kind of glassware is pretty uniform in terms of wall/bottom smoothness so it's relatively easy to scrape it entirely with a straightblade. Avoid jars with lips or indented logos if at all possible, those are a bitch. The jar should be big enough at the mouth for you to reach your hand into with plenty of room to spare.

SWIM wound up doing the same this as SWIN cheech.. Just redisolved the leftovers in another jar of hot naptha..

SWIM will also add that the tool SWIM mentioned earlier in the thread didnt help very much.. That stuff is a pain in the ass to scrap from mason jars! SWIM is going to try a pyrex baking tray next time w/ a regular razor.. Looks a lot easier!

I found this post cus Swiyve been having similar issues. Im actually doing my first ever extraction 100% alone with no help. Im really proud of my yield for such a small extraction. I used 100g Acacia Confusa with a AB tek.aanyways my first pull i used mason jar..i used a butter knofe to collect and scrape...mistake..Swiy was left with so much crystals he couldnt recoverin time...and my white crystals got mixed into the goo due to dissolving and due to the scraping tool i used mixing crystals into the goo accidently :( and cus i took took long they turned to goo anddissolved etc. I did get a fair amount of white crystals tho about 0.7 in white crystals from first pull with no wash :) and about .5 goo. on my first pull not too shabby! but i was left with tons of residuals in the jar..so Swim poured the naptha back into the jar for a second FP and pull. Surprisingly Swiy got a bigger yeild on 2nd pull swiy thinks its due to the leftover from the first pull recrystalizing and adding yeild to the 2nd pull..again using a butter knife swiy collected his 2nd pull from a wide mouth mason jar..but then for the third pull Swim put the naptha into a pyrex dish (small square one.) common sense that its gunna be easier to collect crystals, so ty for the suggestion! i always just used the dishes to put my collected crystals onto for further evap. but yesgreat idea and common sense! but id really like to see this thread blow up with different experiences with scraping tools...i didnt wanna make a new thread since this ones here.. i really want to see the comparisons of other ppls experiences withdifferent scraping tools..cus as of now..butter knife and mason jar? no bueno... lol

I use a razor blade, but for the hard to reach bits, I use a cuticle pusher. Try to get one where the pusher end is flat instead of curved. These little things are my go to for that purpose.

CrystalKid you tricked me into posting on a 6 year old thread :?:

Once upon a time, I decided to try my freeze-precip in a glass baking dish. It was so remarkably easy to recover ~99% of the DMT crystals that I have never even considered going back to mason jars!

On a side note: I love seeing veteran Nexus members' n00b posts from when they first joined up. It makes me smile. :) Everyone starts somewhere!
