Hi Nexuses,

I am ready to use Enoon Caapi extraction tek, Enoons Cold Caapi Tek - DMT-Nexus Wiki.

Bit I will do it with NaOH.

In his tek this is not covered. He is the referring to antoher tek: Enoons Cold Caapi Tek - DMT-Nexus Wiki

I think this tek has a mistake: (Some brews are made without addition of any acid.) And I saw somebody who did the whole process adding NaOH, without the acid, and didn't get anything and threw the whole ting away:

I think it makes no any sense to put in NaOH Lye, if there is no acid!!!!!! What is NaOH going to react with?....

So IMHO this should be corrected.

Yet my question is if I use Eoon's extraction, which I will soon, how to calculate the amoutn of NaOH to put in, because in this case I will have ONLY vinegar and caapi?

I will probably end up with 300 ml of vinegar and harmalas.

thanx

the NaOH (base) WILL react.

The OH- ions cleave off the ions that are bonded harmalas (salts), giving you freebase harmalas.

I have never used a strong base when extracting harmalas, sodium carbonate always did the job for me. Id be careful about adding too much NaOH. Only add just enough to convert the harmalas to freebase.

Then you should be able to collect them as precipitate.

At high pH, around and above < 13.5, you'll dissociate the proton from the pyridine nitrogen, this causes problems. And usually ruins any hope of extracting actives.

Mindlusion,

thank you a lot. So I just want to say that I will have only vinegar solution, as Eoon's tek.

So what exactly ph should be?

thanx

Others have reported that the alkaloids were fine up to a pH of 12, sodium carbonate can get it up to around 11.5

Anywhere around there should be perfect, there should be a visible precipitation of harmalas upon addition, go by that, filter them out first, and then you can try adding more base to see if you can get any more to precipitate. This way you don't have to worry about ruining the whole batch. But I think you'll be fine. :)
