TEK Ethyl acetate approach [CIELO]

This topic contain a TEK
Migrated topic.
You can still collect the solids and rinse with plenty of EA to remove the excess fumaric. Save the resulting 'FASEA' for future use - and also in case of lost product. That said, if you extracted from 150 grams of good quality dried cactus, 10 mg fumaric acid won't be anywhere near enough - or did you mean 10 grams of that as well?
Correct, I meant 10 grams!

Ok, so after I filter out the crystals, I just pour fresh EA over them?

After that step, shouldn't I clean the EA with water and washing soda? Or are you saying just leave that as-is and use it for my next batch?

Hi this is my first comment. Thank you to all of you involved with the fielo tek. It is amazing. It's harder to make sourdough bread than it is to fielo. I've succeeded twice but have issues on this run.

Too much fumaric. What now?

I messed up on my fumaric CIELO and added way too much fumaric. I should not have been pouring it straight in from the bag.

For 150 dry cactus, at the salting stage I added 10mg instead of 4.5. How do I fix this?

You may be OK. How much EA did you pull on total. The TEK allows for some error as the solubility of fumaric is estimated at 9mg/g of EA.

If you used enough EA, and your cactus yielded well, all your excess fumaric could still be in solution.

Try this: collect the product solids. Add 100mg of fumaric to the filtered EA. Does it dissolve? If yes, you are good to go. You will need to keep a close eye on regen (neutralization), it may take longer/more water/more washing soda.

If that doesn't work you can follow Transform's suggestion. The EA should be a little wet (1% water), that helps dissolve the fumaric acid.

It depends whether you value fumaric acid more than EA and how much of each you have to spare. You can add drops of the fumaric-in-EA solution to the next cactus pulls, but you'd need an additional volume of clean EA on hand to be able to do those. If you're low on EA, but have plenty of fumaric, it would be better to clean the EA for reuse.

Another approach would be to attempt a recrystallise the mescaline fumarate from a different solvent, although fumaric acid's solubility in most solvents is pretty low. If mescaline fumarate's solubility in acetone is close enough to zero, you could simply rinse the solids with acetone if you have more of that than you have EA.

It's mostly about finding a pragmatic approach, balancing time and resources.

Ok thank you. I had around 4L of EA in this batch so it sounds like I am under the solubility limit. whew.

I had to do 6x 600ml pulls before the ph strips were reading neutral. Was hoping to do the 3-pull method but I had 150g of cactus in the press. I assume the EA has to be scaled up and I didn't have enough room in my 1.5L press.

Some data on previous fumaric pulls

bridgesii noid- 3.1% stressed and shriveled
pc - mature 5-6" diameter stand. 0.75% unstressed

Interesting, did you measure the EA weights and use the online calculator?

I did not know about the calculator! I made a spreadsheet with the same calculations.

Ok I remeasured, it was actually a total of 3200g. When I washed it, it was pHing stripping a bit red so I doubled the water and soda and stirred longer.

Total this run was 2.7g mesc for 160g cactus which comes out to 1.6g for 100 dry.

This cactus is a Tacaquirensis and this piece was an old fucked up lower mid. I didn't know if it would be active or not so I'm pretty happy. I have a couple of these growing as well as a few cuttings which I will definitely plant now.

Thank you and others again for all your work and collaboration on this tek! I myself have one quality of life suggestion and that is to recommend a respirator. I did my first two runs without one and my lungs felt it the next morning. I got a 3M P100 for this run and it was awesome. They are $35.

That's a great yield.

The TEK recommends a dust mask for people with sensitive lungs because fine particles of cactus and pickling like can be irritating if they are in the air and inhaled. Keeping the cover on the blender for 5 minutes also helps, that's what I do - along with mixing the dry ingredients gingerly. If a plume of dust goes into the air, I take a step back. I should get a dust mask I guess...

Oh the p100 filters organic vapor so really it was to filter the EA fumes.
