Evap Issue

Presuming you were to use say 200 - 300 ml naptha to extract from your balsified water, you might find yourself in the situation where you have an awful lot of naptha to evap before you could even begin to freeze precipitate?.

If in a cold country I would have thought that this would be nearly impossible to do safely.

What do most people do in this situation? The only methodology I can think of is a hotplate and asperator setup?
What is good advice?

Thanks

Just freeze it all. I never evap before a freeze precip.

If your NP isn't super saturated it just takes a bit longer. Just give it a few days for all the goodies to fall out. Sometimes ill let it sit in the freezer for 3 or 4 days.

Perhaps SWIM misinterprets your situation, but she has found that I can FP from quite a large quantity of naphtha like this:

1 a very cold freeze for 12+ hrs
2 observe the slushy precipitate at/near bottom of jar - immediately decant the naphtha careful to leave the slush in the jar
3 save decanted solvent for another pull; investigate honey spice - SWIM hasn't tried this yet but it looks very promising
4 hot water bath the jar with the slush till the small volume clarifies to a deep piss yellow
5 evap that small volume - for SWIM what remains is a yellow/gold/red wax... a nice smoke!
6 optional clean-up/recrystallization with heptane (brand:Bestine)

Hope that helps,
L

Unless your naptha is super saturated a freeze precip will only give you a small quantity of what is totally dissolved in the solvent. Evaporating down with a fan until it is cloudy or clumps of crystals start forming is a must!! If its not super saturated you are just wasting your time.
