Extracting Harmine/THH from rue extract

I found a few related posts about this here and elsewhere, but haven’t been able to come to a definitive answer with the info presented. I think it’s partly due to my lack of chemistry knowledge.

I got some powdered rue extract with the hope that it’d allow for a similar or equal starting point for harmalas extraction as whole seed, with the ultimate goal being to produce THH or a blend of harmine and THH. It doesn’t seem that it’s going to be quite that simple, however.

What needs to be taken into account when starting from an extract? Is it even ideal? If there are any write-ups I missed, please link. I have seen the “10x rue extract” post on this site but am hoping for a little more insight.

Just treat it as though you're starting with rue and take it from there, minus having to cook the seeds. That is, dissolve in dilute acid, *(filter, add base, settle, decant, rinse, settle, decant, reacidify)ₙ and then finish off either with a Manske precipitation or a final filter and base depending which final form you'd prefer. That is, assuming you have the good fortune to have found a rue extract with a significant quantity of alkaloids in it.
[*Repeat the base/wash/acidify cycle as many times as you wish, or can tolerate.]

It would be good to find out just how much a proportion of useful alkaloids there ends up being in a so-called "10× extract".

I’ll do some reading to try and make more sense of what you described, but I really appreciate it as a starting point.

I did catch some other info suggesting the extracts can vary in alkaloidal content, up to and including zero. This came from a reliable source, but I’ll have to wait and see what happens to know for sure.
