Favourite psychedelic music?

Migrated topic.
I love this thread. I lurked here and listened my way though it during several late-night essay writing sessions. Now that I have my full membership I can post some stuff :D

Tracks #1 & 3 here:

Funkadelic- this song makes me intensely happy because I vividly sense the truth in his words:

some old-fashioned psychedelic... wonderful sounding track:

These guys are really blowing up in the Midwest. They're tapped into something really real, especially since returning from an Aya journey in the Amazon.

Look at Rootwire festival if at all possible.

This to me is quintessential old school psychedelia:

Pink Floyd - Echoes Live at Pompeii

Everything about it screams primal, spaced out trippiness, from the footage of Floyd wandering around volcanic springs to the old coliseum they're playing in with mountains of awesome vintage gear stacked up.

The note Gilmour hits at 6:53 explodes my head into outer space and sends me into paroxyms of ecstasy almost every time I hear it... The Sultan of Sustain indeed...

Anyway, hear is another one from the same movie, also quite majestically psychedelic:

Pink Floyd - Careful with that Axe Eugene Live at Pompeii

Enjoy!

but yeah, pretty much anything rush is   😁

Sweet. Rush ftw!

One of my first LSD trips we must have played Xanadu 5 or 6 times back to back... and even then only to switch over to 2112.

@InnerPathsToOuterSpace nice call on the Live At Pompeii stuff. Who doesn't love seeing Pink Floyd tear it up in an ominous, intense ruin of a thousands of years old pleasure resort/ volcanic cataclysm site? The straight version without the intercut interviews is the way to go.

Sad that there aren't new bands of this calibre. (Old guys still giving it up don't count)

Remember when bands could pull this kind of song off live?

That said, this young cat here deserves some props. He is tearing it up on the violin and reinventing dubstep in the process... The Mad Violinist!

Oh, and I just went back and listened to Saul William's Amethyst Rock Star after not hearing it for quite some time... All I can say is WOW. That homeboy can flow lyrics like no one's business. I'm actually not a huge fan of the stuff he did after that seminal 2001 disc, as he became overly introspective and petty IMHO. But that first album, hot on the heels of his stellar performance in the film SLAM (which he co-wrote as well), showed why this guy won every slam poetry competition he entered.

And, more to the point for this place... it is psychedelic as all hell. Some of the sickest psychedelic lyric flows you will likely find on wax. No joke. And all the tracks are mind benders. Listen to what he is saying and tell me I am wrong. I have included this YouTube link that is attached to a playlist of the entire disc. It should just play through. Do yourself a favor and check the whole disc out. It is good to the last drop.

And to recognize that there is vibrant new music out there, I will concur with the post above that trumpets Papadosio... thx Yerba for that reminder. Their spring tour to the West Coast introduced a lot of heads to them, and there are a number of fine shows from them up on Archive.Org. I was brought up on Pink Floyd and Yes, my Mum is a massive Yes fan, I took her as a Xmas present to see them a couple months ago at a big festival (her first festival too, she loved it).

If you want to check out a modern band that does the prog/space rock thing well, check out The Mars Volta, they are definitely in the spirit of those old bands but with the energy of punk rock thrown in for good measure.

I'll be going to Rootwire in OH. I'm traveling all the way from Atlanta. I just learned about it a week ago but I'll be there. Making the trip with a couple friends. I love some of the Art installations on their website. One inspired by the pineal gland looks amazing. It's going to be THE best smaller electronic psychedelic festival of the summer. This is my first year going to Rootwire also.

As far as good music goes...some dubstep, psytrance, psychedelic rock, and much much more. I'll name specific artists later because it's late and the list is huge.

Anyone into psychedelic music also needs to check out Counterpoint Festival in Atlanta in late September. The lineup is INCREDIBLE. This is the first year they're holding it in the counterpoint name and it's already internationally known. People traveling from all over the world. I've been in the past though when it was called The Echo Project. They've just upgraded everything and have a massive budget now.

Yeah, dig Mars Volta... I have a bootleg of theirs somewhere where they decided not to play any songs at all, and just jam super hard for like an hour and a half. I forget if it was because the vocalist got laryngitis of something, but they should do that more often.

Here is a band from the bay area who are also known to throw some serious punk energy into their psychedelic freak outs. All spice users should be familiar with these cats... hint, they suck.

After the 5 min mark, when they go double time, I could just live in that rush. Ahhhhhh....

Well folks here is a simply awesome video. The benchmark by which all psychedelic music must ever compare.

Pink Floyd - The Greatest Gig in the Sky
Complete Dark Side of the Moon live from Wembley Empire Pool London 11-16-74
Featuring video from the original touring screen films

Looks like we have quite a similar taste in psychedelic music Hyperspace Fool... Primus was really my gateway ticket into proper trippy, not normal music. I still hold the first time I listened to "Jerry was a Race Car Driver" extremely stoned when I was a wee lad as a pivotal point in my musical development, I was never the same again and never listened to or approached music the same again either. I even travelled 2000km's to see Primus when I was 16, that obsessed was I. I'm keen to check out that Pink Floyd link when I get a spare moment too...

Cool stuff 4 sure...

Gotta dig the dedication to travel 2k for a show. Those are the adventures that build your character. Here's a sweet piece of musical psychedelia that u might approve of:

I really dug that Ozric Tentacles track you linked, thanks for turning me onto it. Any albums that you could suggest?... I'm downloading Eternal Wheel (Best of) ASAP to give me a general idea, I have some money left in my itunes account that needs spending. Really dug that Pink Floyd link, must be a soundboard, great quality and Dave Gilmour's tone is slaying, downloading the whole show right now.

Here's another band that really taps into the psychedelic realm, this song has lyrics that really hit home to me and when it hits the riff towards the end is magnificent, the masters of the slow build and dynamics...

Some Shakti... Mahavishnu John is tapping into some cosmic forces on this one as are the two percussionists, this is a very deep and dense conversation between maestros.
