My Yoga classes are usually 2-3 men and 7-8+ women.
I was invited to The Freemasons once to give a talk, they were all lovely folks and the invite to join came straight after, I declined the offer politely not telling them that my main reasons were that it was ALL men and ALL white!

It’s likely a mix of hard biology and cultural conditioning. Like almost everything else, it’s complicated.

I think for where we are anthropologically and sociologically, it may have less to do with hard biology as the cultural conditioning are forcings once were. Change being constant doesn't help matters.

I think he's just saying he prefers a diverse atmosphere. He didn't say there was anything wrong with men or that there was anything wrong with whiteness. Only that he was disinterested in joining because it was dominated by such.

If you wrote that here and instead of white people, had any other group as an example almost everyone would likely view it as at least somewhat racist. It does come off as slightly racist imo.

This is where you and I are the same.

However, that's how you operate. I don't think @TransistorBass comment was inherently racist. If they prioritize a certain amount of diversity because it say, informs them about the world through more cultural lenses, that's just being mindful of one's environments and surroundings. It also sounded like he thought they were all swell people, just not a diverse group.

Now, I wonder, if I may, how could he have worded it to not sound bigoted to your ears (this is all given that I am correct in my intuition I may not be)?

I also don’t think a total lack of diversity reflects well on an organization. As a white man, I wouldn’t want to be part of an organization composed entirely of other white men, as that would suggest a significant discrepancy between my values and those of that organization.

He doesn’t have to word it differently, and certainly not to please me. I know that language is a trap but that doesn’t excuse people from needing to elaborate when it comes to topics that are already divisive. I can’t stand anything more than the current culture of canceling and ruining reputations over words that are already only half thought out. People can say things that certainly do come off sounding differently than how they are intended. Then there is also just the double standard like I said change one word in that sentence and people would be reacting differently.

I was asking for meeeeee Just out of curiosity. When I first read it I thought, "uh oh," even though I didn't interpret it negatively . Though wording does carry weight right? That's why we're conversing. I think we wouldn't be having this conversation had it been stated, "...because the group was lacking in diversity, imo."

Yep, that's why I asked the follow up question.

To elaborate, I'll use myself as an example. I'm "black" (technically I am mixed, but we can't help how others view and subsequently treat us). I've never been part of groups like BSA (black student alliance) in high school and college. While it's meant to bring people of color together after a history of being fractured, a place for people of common background and experience, I was never part of it. I kinda felt like I'd been appealing to segregation in another form. Granted, I had also grown up around mostly white people with minimal issue, and didn't share in many common experiences of other students in BSA. I never had any issues with any of them and actually was friends with and hung out with some of them. I just preferred more diversity.

Can't we all just get along.

I'll keep my gob shut in future. I've been avoiding this thread because its not for me to speak, I was simply posing 2 situations that reflected the percentage split of male/female, and the Freemasons were a 'monoculture' which doesn't work for my ethics.

But thanks @Voidmatrix for picking up my vibe perfectly.
I'm all for diversity, so wouldn't join The Freemasons.

I'm very very happy to support all colours, religions, men, women, they, them, gay, straight, trans..... cos we are all F****** humans and yep, Love is Love.
