problem is a 98% lye solution was used and not sure if that's too risky or if it should be tossed. Any Londoners here know of a good place to find pure SH?
 
For something very reactive like NaOH or any other reactive substance you will be veeerrrry hard pressed to ever find a 100 percent pure product, unless it is stored in some sort of special argon or other unreactive substance casing, natural reaction with the atmosphere occurs, just keep the lye air tight, 98 percent is plenty fine. But if your on a missions you could always try electrolyic reduction of a fully saturated NaCl solution, but be careful because you will get Chlorine gas at the anode and Hydrogen gas at the Cathode, so its not only toxic but also explosive, make sure you do it outside with a respirator haha. Then all you have to do is purify it and create a pure argon gas container to ensure it doesnt degrade in the enviroment! Simple as pie right? Probably just stick with using your 98 percent
 
Great thanks. I found a soap making company that sells 99-100%, which I suppose reinforces what was said re degradation.
