Should the original basified water and powder mix have a layer of bubbles on top, is it bad to add napththa if it does? If so, how would you get rid of the bubble layer?

If you followed the correct ratios given from the tek you used it should be fine. I have noticed a fine layer of small bubbles occasionally as well. Just a reaction to the materials being broken down. If you mean a sizeable layer of big bubbles than I am not sure. But you should be fine to proceed. Just don't shake, swirl good luck

Take a stirring rod and mix the solution up a little bit, or shake the jar. You probably have clumps of MHRB still floating around in there.
