first harmala extraction from rue

Here is my photo journal of my first rue extraction following the Harmalas Extraction and separation guide. I was afraid that the harmaline that precipitated was actually baking soda from the previous step as I had dumped a lot and accidentally created a saturated solution, so i tried to wash it with water. Ooops, forgot those freebases are soluble in H20!

But anyway, i'm exhausted after this process and I'm just hoping my harmine is potent. I haven't had a chance to try it yet as I still have to extract the DMT.

Does this process look right to you?

So, my yields were 6.3 grams "harmine" powder and 1.1 grams "harmaline" powder.

I was expecting about 4 grams total since I started with 220 grams of seeds and I read that the seeds are about 2% harmalas by weight.

Does this mean that when dosing I should scale up the dosages somewhat? is there any danger of over dosing harmalas?

Has anyone else done a harmala extraction? which teks did you find most helpful?

Well just take 200-300mg of the harmine by itself or 150-200mg of the harmaline and see how it goes for you. If you already significantly feel the harmala by themselves, light headedness, maybe light tracers or light sensitivity, then its good dosage. If you dont feel anything, increase dosage when you mix with dmt next time. Or if you already feel too much dizzy and all, decrease dosage.

Ive never heard of people having serious problems with harmala overdose but I experienced myself how in quite high doses its very unpleasant, nausea, headache, difficulty moving/loss of balance. So test the dosage I mentioned and tell us how it went for you! Good job!

Aha, somehow there is baking soda contamination. I used too much baking soda to precip the harmine, so when I added it to my shot glass with lemon juice, out came some air bubbles when it dissolved. I don't need to worry about drinking a possibly basic solution, do I?

its been about a half an hour since I drank it and I don't notice anything different. Should I redesolve the harmine in vinegar and add salt to precip it again? then eat the hcl salt?

I went ahead and did another refining pass on the powders. turns out the "harmaline" was ~100% washing soda :|

The "Harmine" went through the entire process alot smoother than ever before, with one exception, that initially i had to add a Lot of vinegar before the bubbling stopped. After that it dissolved easily, then precipitated cleanly with some salt, filtered, redissolved in pure h20, and precipitated again with just one little sift of washing soda. Now its a lighter brown color and appears to be less massive than previously. I will weigh it again after it finishes drying.

I made another discovery: the lime juice I had been using was either quite rotten or had vodka in it from when I was making mixed drinks, and I am fairly certain its the latter, that its about 50/50 vodka and lime juice. Would that inhibit harmalas from dissolving or working properly? I ask because I dissolved some of the drying product in it and did not witness a red color change. Then I dissolved a tiny bit in some vinegar and thought I saw some red color change.

One final question
Can you just eat the harmine? or does it have to be mixed with an acid?

When you want to precipitate the freebase harmalas, add the base slowly, and keep mixing.. if you add too much and fast, then there will be undissolved base together with your precipitation. Just redissolve in acidic solution, and precipitate again. The problem with having a salt precipitation as your last step is that there is a lot of salt contamination. So I only recommend doing that if you know the exact weight of freebase harmalas that are in the solution before salting, because then you can divide the salt precipitation in the according number of doses (you wont know your dosages by the salt weight becuase you wont know how much salt impurity there are). Or precipitate the base, just add the base slowly and keep mixing, let it react with the acid to neutralize everything before it starts precipitating.

If you had a precpitation that has way less quantity than before, either it means indeed now theres less impurities, or it means you didnt add enough base to precipitate it all... you could try adding a bit more base to the liquid you filtered and see if more crashes out.

As for the lime juice+vodka, it wont ruin the harmalas, except maybe tasting bad.

You can eat the harmine yeah. I have for example taken a few times in capsules (and poking a big hole in one end of capsule to aid absorption), but I think the body seems to absorb the salts more efficiently, so redissolving in acidic solution is more efficient ime.

Ok thats what I was expecting to hear. Just wondering why I didn't notice anything after drinking 300 mgs of the product pre-precipitation. Maybe its like MJ where I don't even notice it the first couple times :\

When I basified the solution the last time, I poured in some sodium carbonate (about a teaspoon) from a jar and I could see like a shockwave of low ph precipitating the alks, moving out from where I dumped it in. it was really pretty. then, as per the tek, I added a couple more quarter teaspoons of sodium carbonate until I saw no more color change. then I put it in the fridge for an hour and most of it settled out. I don't think there would be that much sodium carbonate left in the product, and I didn't notice any gas when I mixed a tiny bit with a drop of vinegar. When I get home I'll weigh it and try another 200-300 mg, I'm hoping it totals about 2.5 grams which would suggest pretty good purity

well i spilled it all over the floor :<

but i cleaned it up and put it on the scale... 2503 milligrams O_O creepy

I drank 225 mg of it dissolved in some oj+drops of vinegar since it wasn't all dissolving, and i see barely noticeable brightened colors and feel slight pins and needles in my legs. at this point i'm just gonna assume it works >.<
