Hell no.

You do not want to mess with formaldehyde. The fact that you consider it an alternative to chloroform means you do not know what you are doing and the possibility that you may have access to formaldehyde (and yet be oblivious to its toxicity and handling) worries me alot.

dcm is a good alternative to chloroform, NOT formaldehyde.

don't just consider it, accept the advice. dcm is what you want.
formalin deactivates proteins, you understand? that's why they use it to preserve bodies for burial.

it's not a nonpolar solvent. it's a toxic, polar reagent.
