Sunlight won't hurt your product, but it's better if you keep em dark.

Don't sit it out in the open or visible from any direction. Make sure its covered with a towel or something.

Bury it in the snow. Just don't lose it. I know someone who did this just the other night, when his wife completely filled the freezer with ice cream. Worked well, apparently.

I have freeze-precipitated outside, but I usually only do so if it is below -5 F. The only nice thing about living in a place with insanely cold winters

When freeze-precipitating, you want to aim for the coldest temperature you can facilitate. I always go with about -20 F when using a freezer.
