Hey everyone,

I've been following this forum for several years now, mostly quiet, reading and learning from discussions here. I've always been fascinated by DMT, the hyperspace, entities etc. I was always hesitant because of the legal consequences but fuck them. The hyperspace needs to be explored. 🫡

So, this was my first time trying to extract something from MH, and… yeah. It didn’t go well. But I’m here to learn, so let’s break it down.

I used about 1kg of sandalwood and followed Nomans Tek. Here’s what I did:

The Process (Step-by-Step):

  1. Mixed 15L distilled water with 1kg NaOH and let it sit for 1 hour.
  2. Added pulverized MH rootbark, stirred for 1 minute, then waited 3 hours.
  3. Added naphtha, stirred for 1 minute, then waited another 3 hours.
  4. Prepared 80ml distilled water with a small amount of Natriumcarbonat, shook it with the naphtha in a protein shaker for 1 minute.
  5. Repeated step 4 with just 80ml water.
  6. Extracted the naphtha, put it in a glass container, and placed it in the freezer for 10 hours.
  7. After freezing, white crystals formed at the bottom. When I scraped them off with a credit card and transferred them to a new container, they turned into a yellowish, waxy liquid within seconds.
  8. Final yield: 0.2 grams.

I know the process recommends slow cooling, but with roommates, a communal fridge was the only option. I went straight to freezing.

The Problems (Where I Need Your Input)

  1. Stirring: :I only stirred the naphtha very gently (afraid of forming emulsions), so I did it just once for a minute, then let it sit for 5-6 hours before extracting and freezing. Does naphtha need constant stirring, or can it sit undisturbed? Does it evaporate on its own over time? What about emulsions?
  2. Crystal Stability:After freezing, I got white crystals, but they turned into a liquid when I moved them. What caused this? Did I ruin the extraction at this stage?
  3. Condensation Issues:When I took the container out of the freezer, it fogged up quickly. Inside and out full with condens water. Is this normal and expected? How do you guys handle that? Should I wait for it to dry completely before proceeding?
  4. The Yield (Or Lack Thereof): 0.2 g is less a yield and more that he Mimosa Hostillis mocking my chemistry skills.

I would really appreciate any help or guidance what went wrong. I appreciate any reply thanks fellow psychonauts.

Hi @solanexus ,

1kg is a quite large extraction. That's not only a bad idea if it's your first extraction (efficiently extracting from large batches is much more difficult than from small batches), but also can't be discussed in the Nexus: Attitude Page - DMT-Nexus Wiki

Likely it was condensation what caused your crystals to dissolve into goo. Or else, you didn't remove them from the solvent and dry them fast enough.

You seem to only have done a single pull (I imagine with a lot of naphtha). If you used too much naphtha, DMT won't precipitate out of it. You can either salt it out or evaporate part of it and try freeze precipitating again.

In any case, my advice is to try again with a 50g extraction, which should easily yield close to 1g at least.

First off, don;t start by trying 1kg at once! 50g at a time is more than enough for personal use as it usually yields more than 0.5g. Also these extractions don't scale very well, start small to get it right.

1: No you probably didn't stir enough, the two parts need exposure to each other for all the DMT to diffuse across into the naphtha. One stir then leaving it for hours won't cut it. Just slowly increase the amount of agitation in each stirring session, letting it settle out completely before trying again and watch out for the separation time increasing too much and the start of emusion forming. that way you get to know how much agitation you can gety away with on that batch.
It doesn't need constant stirring, or sitting undisturbed, it needs five or six sessions of agitating then waiting for it to clear, the clearing should only take ten minutes or so if you're doing it right.

2: Those must have been water crystals, you need to take more care on the water wash of naphtha, no need to blitz it in a protein shaker, just gently agitate.
Also make sure your dish is well sealed to prevent condensation while freezing.

3: That's normal, things that can be done about it include aircon to dry out the atmosphere in the kitchen when you remove the dish or being swift about pouring off the naphtha and returning the dish to the freezer upside down over a towel to allow the last drops of naphtha to drain off. Also just let the dish dry completely before you do any scraping, condensation will eventually evaporate too.

Assuming you haven't thrown the bark soup out yet, add 100ml naphtha and try again swirling a few times before pulling it off the top and freezing, this ought to get you a good saturated solution which you can freeze precipitate, then do that cycle of 100ml pulls and freezing as many times as it takes for the yield per pull to drop below what you consider worthwhile.
