In SWIM's opinion, naphtha is such a crappy solvent incapable of pulling the full potentials of the Jurema rootbark, chaliponga, and phalaris species. However this just may be speculative, SWIM continues his A/B extractions with xylene with added FASA to an almost irrefutable prepared smoke.. This really does solve most problems.
Lowering the pH first never hurt an extraction but agreed that it sure doesnt seem to make a difference when salting out the precipitates from basifying first, although most fatty substances present seem to be pulled along with most solvents creating a very crude smoke (No matter how selective?), in SWIM's experience at least.. Which from I understand is why a defatting step is recommended. Take for example as a brew is prepared, a weak acid is only added for reassurance for drinking.
