what are the typical contaminants of normal hardware store acetone? Anything toxic? Or just water maybe?

Is there a way to remove any negative impurities?

could one use hardware acetone for redissolving jungle spice to help get rid of xylene traces? If just water is impurity, I guess the only issue would be slow evaporation of water in the end, right?

(on a side note, how does dmt crystalize in evaporating acetone?)

hardware store acetone is sufficiently pure, usually >98%. the rest is likely water.

SWIM used it with san pedro extractions (recrystallization) to get significantly pure off-white crystals.
not sure about your other questions. swim's never tried it with dmt, though any trace water present shouldn't create any hassles. rest assured, store bought acetone is a suitable solvent.

Kleanstip brand in extremely pure. Their current MSDS says it is 100% acetone. Its volatility rating is 100.0%

Get that brand. That's what SWIM uses. He always distills it beforehand, just to be sure because you never know. Someone could have opened the container in the store and a fly got inside or something worse. If you can't distill it at least filter it before using it.

thanks! where SWIM lives there is no such brand but the listed ingredient is only acetone. He will probably use that.. He has no distilling apparatus, though would love some :D
