How long it takes for a HDPE jug to leak when it contains a lye solution (1g/15ml) ?

I've mine sitting in a house since two months..is it ok ?

I've got one sitting that I got from a friend, they had it sitting a couple of months and I've had it about 3 weeks. Ratio is 1g/12ml. You should have a few weeks left anyway. No idea how long it takes to leak... does it happen eventually?

For me, I have no glass container. Could probably get one without too much hassle but I don't really care, I don't mind using plastic. Of all the bad things going into my body, trace amounts of phthalates vaped once or twice a month isn't really a concern. I am curious about what OP has said about HDPE leaking if being left for too long, I was not aware that could happen.

This is the way to go (2000ml of course, 500 wouldn't be enough). Lab grade borosilicate glass.

From this source, it seems like there is no reasons to be worried about leaking.

No but as you can see aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons (basically Naphtha) are only rated "G"

Also: "Sodium hydroxide 1%: LDPE at 20C°-50C° shows little or no damage after 30 days of constant exposure. HDPE at 20C°-50C° shows some effect after 7 days."

Solutions for the extraction used in most teks are about 8-10% concentrated NaOH so that can be quite a problem regarding your source.
