Headache brainfoq from smoking lye?

Thanks for your feedback Transforn, very usefull advices! Hereby some multiple angles, my best guess is that the dark yellow has quite some base residu in it, this is actually after re-ex alreade from yesterday.. what would be the best wash / clean from here?

Absolutely not. Lye's not magic - it eventually (sooner rather than later) gets neutralised by acid substances in the body tissues. Fumes from burnt alkaline plant material might be unpleasant, though.

It's really easy to avoid base contamination by using a wash jug with a dash or so of sodium carbonate solution where the heptane/naphtha goes before transferring it to the crystallisation dish.

If you've missed out on that step and have base contamination in your crystals, you clean them up with a re-x (recrystallisation) from warm heptane, which is about the same as the freeze precipitation from the initial pulls, and you remove the heptane from the contaminants before allowing it to cool and crystallise.

These are basic steps that should be applied before consuming a home made substance.

I Did this warm heptane re ex, can de salt carbonate step still be done?
 
By the way headdache is about gone and pretty back to normal again, I think the stress / fear of something damaging happening to my brain just added to it as well, this stress was released by all your response and care so very greatfull to the platform and this amazing communuty here!
 
NAOH isn’t gonna dissolve in organic solvent - unless you pulled in the black goo and left it there - no way - you can see the black stuff in your naphtha etc - get rid of it - also recrystallize your stuff from hot heptane will clean it immensely - its so easy there are you tubes on this - gets all the orange and most yellow out - again NAOH isn’t gonna go into heptane either - you need to get that black stuff out !
 
The yield looks normal to me. I've had chalky smears when there's fine powder and sticky residue, spreading the powder like butter instead of scraping nicely.

What does the spice smell like? It seems common for newbies to scrape it up and immediately jar it, perhaps without letting it air out fully. I get a headache just from a whiff of naphtha, maybe some people are more sensitive to the smell. The sticky goo layer is likely holding onto and emitting the smell, solvent or otherwise. I would re-x and maybe rinsing the mother liquor off the precipitate with a more volatile, less offensive solvent should be encouraged regularly. I've never done it myself but any solvent smell irritates my frontal lobe. Not for days though so idk
 
It is important to chop it up into tiny bits of powder and let it fully dry. I often leave a fan on but pointed off center. As I like to say I want my product to blow me away, not get blown away. However long you think it should dry, double that. Err on the side of caution and safety.

Freebase DMT that was extracted has a light, otherwordly floral scent to it. It is the smell of indole I understand.

I have smelled synthesized DMT. It does NOT smell floral. It smells odd. Like new shoes meeting moth balls or something.
