Hi!

I am a bit of a novice when it comes to DMT. I've never had the pleasure to experience it and I probably won't be able to for the foreseeable future as I am currently a broke student. But, I do have a passion for all things entheogens and love to learn about them more than anything.

I'll say a little bit about myself. I am a second time student, now going for an MLT position. Before, I was a software developer but I found that to be a painfully boring career (not the coding, I liked doing that.. I'm mostly talking about the whole cubical-life and constant-meetings deal). So far I love what I am learning in my MLT program. My favorite part is the microbiology aspect, and growing colonies on agar.

My primary hobby at the moment is gardening and I love to grow legal psychoactive plants. I have never harvested anything from my plants yet, I mostly just like the idea of it! I also enjoy growing vegetables. I guess I just like plants that are more useful than just pretty. I have dabbled a bit in gourmet mushroom cultivation as well.

I have also started to collect books about psychoactive plants. Currently, I own: The Encyclopedia of Psychoactive Plants, Fly Agaric: A Compendium..., and Salvinorin: The Psychedelic Essence..., as well as some books about mushroom cultivation. Let me know if you have any suggestions on must-have books

Which ones are you growing?

Speaking about books, there's "The Ayahuasca Experience" by Ralph Metzner that is quite up-to-date (2013).
Then there's "Plants of the Gods" by Albert Hofmann, Richard Evans Schultes and Christian Ratsch (author of the Encyclopedia of Psychoactive Plants): I don't have it yet so I don't know how up-to-date it is (it was published in 1979 and reprinted in 2001), but it's a classic.
About mushrooms there's "Sacred Mushrooms of Visions", also by Ralph Metzner, and then of course there's "Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World" by Paul Stamets, that I think is out of print by now but available as free PDF.

Currently I am growing heavenly-blue morning glories and a San Pedro.
I tried some Lauren's Grape Papaver somniferum this spring but they didn't sprout... Plan on trying again next year along with a Datura stramonium. I love how those spiraling petals look!

Thank you for the recommendations! I've added them to my list. "The Ayahuasca Experience" might have to be my next buy.. The stuff is just so interesting. I remember over a decade ago being obsessed with reading erowid reports online :lol: I'm sure a lot of us here have a similar background!

Also, I'm currently waiting for a friend to finish "Food of the Gods" by Terrance McKenna so I can borrow that one.

I'm growing San Pedros too. Morning glory seeds and opium poppy plants are illegal here (depenalized in small amounts). I can only legally grow SP and allies, Datura and allies, Ephedra, DMT plants and harmala plants (but since this year chacruna and caapi are also illegal). Edit: I just found out that Mexican morning glory (Ipomoea tricolor) is legal to grow too.

Yes, ayahuasca is a very interesting topic. The Ayahuasca Experience talks about the plants, biochemistry, pharmacology and it also has a collection of experience reports. IMO you'll enjoy it

McKenna is not my cup of tea but Food of the Gods is an interesting and detailed book. It's a little "philosophical" and speculative as other books by MK.

What entheogens do you like to work/interact with?

I am also growing SPs as well as lots and lots of mushrooms (currently fruiting are Whitr Teachers, Hillbillies, Cambodians, and Albino Colorados).

As for books, I recommend anything by Terence McKenna (especially True Hallucinations), and I consider PIHKAL and Tihkal (Shulgin) to be entheogenic and psychopharmacological staples.

I wonder, is it because of psychoactivity, or because they are considered noxious weeds in some parts of the globe?

I'm glad we can both grow SP though. Although I'll admit mine struggles a bit in my humid climate. Do you keep yours indoors or outside?

Understandable! Terrance was definitely the more philosophical of the two brothers. I've listened to some interviews with his brother Dennis and he seems to be more scientifically grounded. I like a healthy dose of both

What entheogens do you like to work/interact with?

I am most well acquainted with psilocybin! I have experience with LSA but it was a long time ago. Cold water extractions make me nervous as I remember the nausea being pretty intense. Someday I would like to try a proper extraction with solvent that passes an evap test (if I can ever find clean stuff, ugh)

I've also dabbled with decarboxylated amanita, just a little before bed. I find it gives me very vivid and sometimes lucid dreams.

As for books, I recommend anything by Terence McKenna (especially True Hallucinations), and I consider PIHKAL and Tihkal (Shulgin) to be entheogenic and psychopharmacological staples.

Yes I have listened to an audio reading of True Hallucinations read by Terrance himself! I'm not sure if he read the whole thing or just a section, so I need to add the book to my collection. It is a delight listening to the man himself, I will say.

Mushrooms and psilocybin have a very special place in my heart as well. I have yet to try LSA, but am interested. Life has a way of getting in the way in a lot of ways :lol:

As for Mr. Mckenna, I love listening to him even when I don't agree with him. He just resonates with me a great deal. His brother is brilliant as well (Dennis).

It's because of psychoactivity... in fact only the seeds are illegal, while grown plants are legal.

Yes I mentioned it only because it's legal, but since it lives in dry regions I don't know if it's easy to grow in humid climate.

Same. I have them to thank for digging me out of a dysfunctional default mode network. I am now able to think about my life in a much more compassionate way!

Last time I tried bringing mine outside, it developed some black spots on the top :shock:
Couldn't tell if it was just from the humidity or a fungus, but the internet freaked me out so I cut the area off and brought it back inside.

They are beautiful! Full warning, I don't think the effects are very pronounced, but why not add them to the collection :d

Humidity favors the growth of molds. It happened to me too after long rains. Maybe you could bring it inside only during the cold/humid months and during rainy days. But I understand your worries.

BTW I just found out Mexican morning glory (Ipomoea tricolor), which I think is the one you grow, is not illegal to grow here
Even if I prefer to grow perennial plants. Same goes for Californian poppies.
