Hello. First off, I want to show my appreciation of this site and its members. I feel important things are being done here.

Anyway, I have made extractions that I then freeze-precip/evap'd to obtain crystals that have failed testing. I can only speculate as to why I'm receiving negative results because I have done everything to the "T". I paused to avoid further failure and waste of crystals, after months of researching I have now made another extraction. The extracted naphtha is now sitting in a hot water bath. I am prepared to do a sodium carbonate wash as well as this is something I have never done before. Always before immediately after extraction I went to freeze-precip, to drying, then to testing with negative results. Help is much needed and will be eternally appreciated as it is a strong desire to produce quality product at this time. Thanks in advance!

I procured 200g of MHRB powdered root bark. I did two separate extractions using 100g each. The first consisted of 100g of lye, 1800 or so mL of water and 50mL or so of naphtha per extraction totaling three separate pulls. Each time using evap once and freeze-precip twice I obtained crystals that when dried out and smoked left a horrendous taste and smell. It didn't vaporize properly and just turned into a clear, liquid sludge that remained. Since then I have started over with the remaining 100g and have done everything, like aforementioned, to the "T". However, I have made no pulls until now. I do not want to continue without confidence in certain success. Currently I pulled 50mL~ of naphtha this is taking a hot water bath as it was very cloudy. Now it looks clear and do not want to continue until what I get from freeze-precip is quality crystals ready for vaporization.

Umm... cloudy naptha that becomes clear when warmed up is a very good sign the extraction went well.

Since you still have several pulls left, I personally would try to evap the pull you already have to 50% volume, then freeze precipitate. Read a lot of the smoking advice (which you may already have), and if availalbe, have a fellow psychedelic voyager available to share the product with and compare notes.

Just to map out my progress from here forward following your recommendations, I should take the now-clear naphtha and evaporate to 50% volume. Then I should freeze-precip the remaining carrier, then dry and test? No sodium carbonate wash? Also, could you instruct on proper drying techniques and procedures?

100g lye per 100g MHRB seems grotesquely excessive. I think you may be chemically destroying the spice. This is one of the reasons I no longer use lye. I use sodium carbonate which is pretty much impossible to take the pH too high with.
With 100g NaOH dissolved in 1.8L H2O, your pH would essentially be maxed out at 14. I don't know the exact number, but I believe it is around 12 that DMT starts breaking down. 14 is essentially 100x that.

I would just like to note that those are the exact steps I have taken before and every time ended with bad spice that was not of any effect. I was not alone on this test either, my gf also participated and both of us had very negative results. To include further detail, once vaporized (using a light bulb and straw :? ) what came was very little smoke and had a horrible chemical-like smell that smelled and test horrible that ensued coughing and harsh conditions for throat/mouth. I encountered a burnt, numbing sensation in the mouth personally that my partner did not experience.

I followed the DMT for the Masses tek, whomever that belongs too. I can't recall specifically if that's the amount of lye it called for but I believe it is.

Which tek are you following? Maybe it is best to continue that to a T, unless you think this is the part that could have given you an issue.

You can weight the crystals, we want them to weigh a few hundred miligrams (vs a few grams which is a clear sign that something not wanted is diluting the good spice). If at this point there is still no effect I would try a reagent if no corraborating friend is available.

Not downing any other Teks but if you're having trouble you should give cybs salt tek a try. It's incredibly easy and even has pictures for each step. Can't go wrong with that.

Some small amount might survive, but I have doubts.
Yes, sodium carbonate can be substituted for lye but it's not going to be a one to one replacement. I've never done a straight to base extraction with it. I pretty much always do AB extractions now. When my solution is all cleaned up and ready for base, I'll add a little sodium carbonate and stir, repeat this action until solution turns dark and then add about 50% more than was just added.

Do not use a light bulb to vape DMT. Not only is smoking out of a light bulb potentially dangerous but it is also incredibly inefficient which means you will end up wasting and burning most of your DMT. Burnt DMT is harsh and tastes disgusting while properly vaped DMT is relatively smooth.

Convection > conduction when it comes to DMT. Assuming all your chemicals are safe for extraction (evap test, no impurities in the lye, etc. etc.), it is your smoking method that needs improvement, not the quality of the DMT itself.

Hmm, never really took that into consideration. I also put some on the end of a cigarette, but experienced nothing. No uncomfortable physical effects fortunately as well. Could that have been my problem all along? Also, could you advise on your personal favorite and maybe quick, easy methods for inhalation?
