Help with re-x

Hi I’m wondering if anyone has faced this issue before and has any advice.

So I’ve done an A/B extraction from Acacia rootbark and ended up with about 7 grams of crude dmt with a lot of plant fats/oils. I want to get pure DMT crystals so I’m trying to re-x with n-heptane.

I put the crystals in a Pyrex dish and added 100ml of heptane and heated it on a hot plate for about 20 minutes. The issue I’m having is that the oils completely liquify and become homogenous with the heptane so I can not decant off just the DMT.

I asked an AI what to do and it said I used way too much heptane and to evap off until I get about 20ml heptane left and the oils will crash out first then I can decant. So I tried that but the oils never separated from the heptane until all the heptane was gone. So then I added back 20ml of heptane and heated for 3 mins and the oils just liquified again.

So now I’ve just put all the heptane and oils in the freezer to freeze precip and I’ll try and do another re-x tomorrow hopefully with better results.

Can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong? Am I heating for too long or too hot? (Only used the lowest temp on the hot plate.)
Am I using too much heptane. Or something else.

Any advice appreciated thanks.

Maybe the oily part.... or goo is actually 97% polymorfus DMT and your wasting it by trying to get rid of it ..?

or maybe i'm missunderstanding your purposs ?

Do you know about polymorphism in DMT ? nnDMT can be white powder /crystals , yellow , waXy diffrent shades or goo various colors to yellow or red ....But there still all 97% nnDMT .

JUST ASKING : )

I am first going to tell you what to do in the future so you never have to try and remedy this again. Next time, during the acid phasing before basing, do a defat step, which is essentially doing a couple pulls with solvent. The only pulls the fat. Then you would move forward with basing and the rest of you extraction.

To solve the problem you have now, do a mini A/B: dump all of the product in a jar, add water like you were doing an extraction. Acidify. Pull fats. Base. Pull DMT.

Yet, goo is good...

Thanks for the replies.

I have heard of polymorfus DMT before, that crystals can either be white or yellow. I was unaware that the goo could be such high concentration of DMT. I've just been trying to get only fluffy dry crystals because I thought the goo was significantly less potent but there has always been at least a thin layer of goo on the bottom of my freeze precip dish.

Goo is good...
Goo is potent.
Crystals are cosmetic.
I see. This is new info to me. I just found another thread from 2013 saying the same thing.

Ahhh okay. I have never done a defat step in my A/B. I will do a mini A/B today and see if it helps. Very much appreciate the suggestion.

I attached some pics of what the pulls looked like before I attempted re-x.
Cheers guys. 😃

Your advice was a huge success!
I did a mini A/B with defat step and then freeze precip from Naphtha and the result was fluffy dry white crystals. No sticky mess at all!
I never get product this clean unless I do multiple re-x's on it. I'm shocked it worked so well.

On the edges of the dish there is some white goo looking substance but it is not sticky it's more like a dry paste that breaks into pieces.
I'm interested if anyone knows why that formed instead of crystals. Could be due to evaporation of the naphtha before it had time to crystallise.

I will always do a defat step in my future A/B extractions. You've saved me sooooo much headache. thank you very much for your wisdom Voidmatrix!!

While I can't necessarily say why it happens, I can say that it's common. The edge of the surface of the solvent and where it meets the dish can also have orange crystals when the rest of the dish is white. I'd say scour the polymer threads to see if you can suss out why.

I'm glad it worked! Be well and enjoy your goodies.
