You are going to fit in around here perfectly @Trichocereus.Rex . your cacti collection is outstanding and that flower 😍

Love seeing them directly planted in soil and with the snow is awesome! mine have encountered snow almost yearly around may long weekend and it didn't seem to faze Trichos or the Lophophora Williamsii! Do your cacti stay year round outdoors, and if you don't mind me asking your grow zone?

That sounds pretty good for Canadian Winters! Lovely Collection you have there! A little of a derailment/side quest are you mushroom hunting in the Canadian PNW, and if so what kinds are you finding? I have heard Panaeolus cyanescens being found out there as well?

Interesting, I'm not too far away from the area, well its quite the ways but I'm close in the Canada Sence. I was looking at coming up that way this year, but it never happened so I'm hoping next year it will be on the books.

Whens the best time of year to expect to find Cyanscens & Azures? I'd have to be poking around developed places with mulch beds i'm assuming. would we be still concidering these wild or just man made in the sence they are not native to the area only introduced

I'd like to get up that area and do some wheeling with a local club on a few trails to some mine sites and explore a little around the Island as I hear the FSR systems are pretty impressive. then wanna work my way back through the Okanogan during the hottest days of summer.

I'll leave it like this and won't take this sidequest any further..
 
Im on the island so our season might extend a bit past the mainlands but generally October through November and into December is the season for cyans.

Okanagan is great as long as the whole valley is not full of wildfire smoke…but I suggest if you can fit it see the kootenays as well and hit some hot springs.

I was not expecting those months to be the season, I'm shocked I was assuming April-May. My planned timeline was during those months and being able to hit up med summer down in the Okanagan Valley!

I live closer to the Kootenays and love the area! Spent a lot of time up off White Swan Lake FSR, we hit up trails all over there. One of our friends have a trailer kinda near Primer Lake. Super Nice spot.

- Had moved this one out from the grow room and she's still adjusting to outdoor life, and started getting a little too much sun, so she back under the patio table umbrella to harden off a little longer, hopefully its not burnt too badly.

Thank you! They are pretty much all overwintered in unheated greenhouses. I've been slowly putting some in the ground that have grandifloris genetics in them, which should lower the mesc percentage but bring colored flowers and cold tolerance.
I have a Hz x Zelly22 from end that made in the ground, and noid Zelly from a local friend and they made it as well as the HZ X Vrg.
I've added some Icaros x Zelly22 and Dr Greenthumb Scop x Zelly33 I did from seed into the ground around my house and they're getting life figured out with endless rooting area. We shall see how they handle the cold...

It should be said, for every plant that made it thru the winters, there were probably 5-10 that froze and melted.

I don't intend to scare anyone outta experimenting but I do warn that loss happens.

For example this GIANT Nibiru x Awful that was my first mutant completely died after an early fall freeze. It was still drinking the last watering even though it'd bee weeks, there was enough water to expand and freeze the thing solid. I don't have picture of it dying i couldnt bring myself to document it

Hey what grandiflorus crosses would you recommend growing as actives? I don’t mind low potency I have so many other potent clones. I just want to grow more actives in general that do well outside in PNW zone 8b into 9a.

I'd recommend growing a lot of em. Ime Hz is a good for medicine so any Hz x Grandi hybrid would be worth checking out.
Are you familiar with zellys? Misplants pride and joy, but it's a hybrid of Scop and Grandi. I've noticed that scops seem to tolerate the cold well.
So "high potency clone" crosses with any zelly is probably a good bet.
Lumberjack, Hz, Eileen, are all good places to start.

My outdoor garden for the year.
I live in a temperate zone and so my strategy is that I have a bay window full of cactus from which I take cuttings to put outside in the ground in the spring. I'll just cut them all to the ground before first frost.
It's mid June and they've been in the ground for a month and a half, have recovered transplant shock, and put on a little growth. I should have a bit come fall.
All but the four furthest to the right are PC, though. I don't have a ton of growth in my other clones yet.

The greenery in the back is all Desmanthus illinoensis.

Just seeing the reply, that is the Bouncing Bear Botanical Macrogonus. Which is actually same cultivar in the post right before it but not the same cacti between the two photos. The top view cacti is about 5' tall going into this summer so likely will get a haircut in fall if it struggles to stay upright.
 
Spiders and cacti seem to be strong allies. Every year several setup shop and I feed them throughout the season. Depending on the size of the spider usually mosquitos that I didn't completely obliterate with my hand, earwigs, and right now grasshoppers.

Was wondering what this one was going to look based on the huge web it setup:

I love me some cys! Got some made into micro chocolates with lemon oil and cayenne.
Those nubs on the bridge are rad I love that mutation!

Only one that made it thru the cold. I grafted it but it's been on its own roots for about two years.
Tpc is Trichocerues Peruvianus Crestata
Kt-ogun is a glacous Peruvianus found by keeper trout and gifted to misplant who made the cross. I love the notches on this one
