How long can lye/vinegar/salt solution last?

Roughly of course -- How long can the solution last in a dark spot before it is unable to be rewarmed and pulled from again.

IME with a v. old batch (1 yr +) yielded abosultely nothing, on 6 pulls. It was recommended to re-acidify the basic solution again, and then re-heat and re-basify. This was not done, so my best guess is that re-doing the acid phase is key. Heating the solution in its basic form may result in damaging the molecule you are after.
