How long to freeze-precipitate + a few general queations?

I have been reading many stb teks for a while now and have noticed so many different times and measurements that i want to make sure what i am doing is ok.

MHRB: 50g
Caustic Soda: 50g
Distilled water: 500ml
Naphtha: 75ml

After rolling and swirling naphtha in the bark/base solution, I put the jar in a warm water bath to help seperate the layers (i heard this could cause some impurities to enter the naphtha). Does anyone know if that is necessarily true?

After pulling most of the naphtha out (leaving some behind to make sure i didn't carry any yucky stuff over) I put the naphtha in a separate jar and placed it in the freezer at -30c. It's been about 3 1/2 to 4 hrs and there are loads of crystals forming on the bottom of the jar. Is it really necessary to keep it in the freezer for 3 days, as some teks suggest? Some say 6 hrs is sufficient.

Sorry if these questions have been answered a million times before. I am a big fat noob when it comes to this stuff, even though i have been reading up on it for months on end.

Generally 12 hours plays it safe but as you say some only leave it for a few - 2 or 3 days is usually referring to when large amounts of bark were used and all the solvent is put together, meaning more DMT is needed to precipitate. When you do decide to take it out pour off the liquid into a separate container straight away, if you take your time the solution will start to warm and the DMT dissolve. Then I find the most full proof method to dry it out is to put the lid/cover on your container and put it back in the freezer but upside down leaving it for an hour or two, this will allow all the excess liquid to drip to the bottom - if simply evaporated straight from pouring off the liquid the excess sometimes will dissolve your goods. Then take it out of the freezer, taking off the lid and been careful to pour the excess safely with the rest of the liquid. Then just leave it under a fan until no sent of solvent is left and evaporate the excess solvent for whatever was left over - vwola !

This is a bit off topic but if you like psy check out Terrafractyl Chrysalis (rapidshare). I only mention it cuz not many people know of them and they are amazing. Gives hope to the world of psy, which was easily going downhill in many ways. Even if you don't listen to that kind of music, check it out.

I tried a bit over the weekend to get a feel for it. Got some visuals but not enough to knock me off my feet. I am waiting til this coming weekend to do it properly, as I am going to have a few friends over who have done it before. By the way, your advice worked perfectly. Thanks again!

Yea just start small like you have, then just introduce yourself to more and more every time. When the gang come over just make sure you get your setting all sorted out - dim the lights and get some soft music playing as to create a relaxing atmosphere.

Also, what smoking method are you using as it's an important aspect..
 
I used a bong with a bit of weed for the first tester. I was thinking about buying one of those little crack pipe bottle things with the metal gauze in the top. Seems the best way by the sounds of it, as it needs to be vaporized.

I hear atmosphere (set and setting) is important. I have done acid and mushies where the same principle applies. I've even got a sound track sorted for the night... i'm such a dork.

Perfect, definietly not a dork. If you look around you'll actually find allot members talking very sternly about setting. Take pride in setting and thou shall receive.

However don't get a crack pipe bottle thing vaporizer gauze majigy - a bong is perfect. Instead of using weed though (tends to cloud the experience) go to your local head shop or online and pick up one the herbs listed here - I'd suggest Calea. Put a layer of herb, then sprinkle the amount of DMT required, then off set the lighter to the cone and slowly heat up the crystal trying not to let it touch - if after 1min it still hasn't fully melted into the leaf I usually inhale slightly to get the heat running through the cone. Then just smoke it like you would anything else, but just do it really slowly - and after you finish the cone open up your lungs fully so the smoke fills every inch and hold it in for 10-20 seconds. :d
 
I went and bought candles and incense yesterday to make the setting even more pleasant. I unfortunately tried crack years ago (i regret doing so as i absolutely hated it) and understand the technique to prevent it from burning (i.e. letting it melt first). Could i use ash instead of the suggested herbs? or will that be wasting it?

Sounds sweet. If you feel comfortable with a crack pipe sweet, but the smoke is much less enjoyable. Ash works fine but using a herb adds to the experience and makes the smoke much smoother.
 
Nice one! I will go to my local headshop and search for the suggested herbs. I hated smoking from a crack pipe anyways, so i will stick to my beloved bong :) And screw the ash... such a gross way of smoking anything in my opinion. Thanks again!
 
I used to use ash all the time. I always kept burning herbs too quickly which made for lots of burnt spice... it's all about infusing herbs for me now though :).
 
ok, cool. I guess practice makes perfect, eh? If ash is easier i might stick to that, as I am far from being an expert on smoking this stuff. Maybe in the future i'll go get some of the aforementioned herbs. Tanks!
 
That changa herb seems like the way to go! I just can't seem to find it in any online headshops in England or any London headshops. It will have to be done in the future though, as the trip sounds amazing!

i froze my extraction for about 30hrs, got white crystals:) (i used 100gr mimosa)
changa sounds awesome to me, really wanna try it, DoingKermit i know of a headshop in Croydon(hope its ok to mention shop names and locations)that sells a few herbs(yellow caapi) in particular. not to sure if its vine or leaf, didnt look very leafy, almost like twigs and powder.
anyway if anyone has any advise on weather you need vine or leaf(caapi) that will be so cool. Caapi sounds like a good option, no??
or next best will be to check out amazonhealing.net they have a nice selection of herbs. i believe theyr in germany, hmm just noticed im going of topic here, oops...
i dont seem to have any prob with the spice on my lungs, so havent tried the bong route, only the "meth" pipe, still gotta master the vapouring aspect but im still getting good results, but still wasted sum of my precious spice.
