How many liters of water for THP cappi extraction

Using a 1 liter HPDE bottle with boiling water and 100g cappi. How many liters to run through to get majority of good stuff? Would 1 be enough?
 
I read the whole thing and it says to use 15 liters per 100 grams. I think he's referring to cold water. That's a little much. There's no way I'm gonna reduce 4 gallons for 100 grams of caapi. I think he mentions that he thinks 1/5th would be used for hot water, which I am using. That would be 3 liters. But I'm wondering if anyone knows from experience?

When I make caapi brew with about 100g of shredded caapi, I use about 500ml water, boil for 30 minutes, repeat 3 times. Due to some water boiling off, I’m left with about 1.75L of unconcentrated brew which is easily reduced.

What is the advantage of using THP?
 
you just need big jars to fullfill..not a problem to basify,you will need very little lye anyway
and alks freebasee would fall down i hope,if you have to pull em with naphta it would be a mess :shock: :lol:
 
To the OP: I use water at a ratio of 200ml/gram plus a splash of vinegar/L to ensure I've gotten as many of the goodies as possible.

Extractors are even better. I can completely extract 100 g of caapi or mhrb with 400 ml of ethanol of which I recover at least 300 ml.

I did it couple of times out of curiosity and the tek requires huge amount of time and energy. Supposedly it produces good yield and better tasting aya, but I didn't notice much difference.

Damn snozzleberry that's quite a lot of water. Is there any reason to use so much? It seems like it would be easier just to boil the caapi in a cloth bag in a pot of water. I thought the advantage of the THP was that it required much less work, time, and reduction.

Original THP tek uses room temp water. Passing only once through the plant material it extracts only small amounts of alkaloids. Most of the alkaloids are inside the plant cells that need to be broken before they release the alkaloids into water. Boiling does that as well as freeze/thaw. So, in THP tek even hot water is not very efficient.

You may use less water if you cycle the same water through your caapi many times, but water that is already saturated with alkaloids does not take more alks as readily as the fresh one.

That's right. Straining and adding fresh water a few times is even better. During each boil your liquid will be reduced naturally.

No. It produces better tasting brews, or so I've heard.
 
I find it to be less involved than boiling/straining. I just boil a bunch of water, set up my percolator, add a splash of vinegar to the water/run the acidified water through the percolator and simmer it down. The only part I tend to be 100% present for is the percolation (which goes rather quickly). While I simmer I'll do a whole host of other things and just sort of keep an eye on it.
