I have some beautiful old vine

Is older bigger vine stronger? if so how much of it would be a good dose for an experienced voyager thats around 200 lbs. Second question I have had this piece of vine now for about 4 years I store it vacume sealed in a dark very cold freezer. Will the vine go bad or has it gone bad? Could I make a pretty big brew with this for many people, The vine weighs 1500+ grams.

That is a beautiful piece of Caapi.

Caapi doesn't go bad...there are 100 year old specimins that contain almost the same amount of alkaloids as when they were first harvested. You probably don't need to keep it in the freezer.

Older vine usually is much stronger than younger vine. There are still many other variables, but you should need much less. I believe that a larger % of alkaloids can be found in the bark than the rest of the vine, but I'm not 100% sure about that...pretty sure.

I would start with 30-40g/person. You may need more or you may need less, but 40g is a safe place to start.

Anyways, enjoy breaking that thing up...you're gonna need an axe or something.

Looks like it would weigh more than 1.5kg though.

Just out of curiostiy, how are you gonna break thaty up for brewing?

I'm not sure exactly how much it weighs. I was told 2,400 grams + or -,The scale I weighed it on only confirmed it was more than 1,500 grams. It is too big, heavy, thick, and long to weigh it on a scale meant for weighing out milligrams and grams.

My plan was to put it in a wood chipper and catch the chips as they come flying out.....lol

Actually My plan is to cut it up in slices first with a power miter saw/chop saw and then hammer up the smaller pieces with a mini sledge hammer. I have a rather large smooth river rock to smash it on. Thats my plan. Any other ideas would be apreciated.

I'm a solo voyager, so I will only need to smash up a little at a time. It would be nice to share it with others. Unfortunately, I have not been yet blessed with the aquaintence of others who partake.

Pharma is normally my route of travel. I have had this a long time and I thought it about time to step forth. The brew I have had in the past was made from vine about the width of my thumb and that really launched me, so I was a little aprehensive about this big vine. I asked myself the other day, why have it if your not gonna use it? I'm gonna use it. I'll just go slow.

I was wondering, if I got a clean cut of it, would I be able to count the rings on it and determine how old it is?

It would be more time and energy efficient to brew a large batch.
It keeps very well in the fridge man.
 
^ Agreed. Even when I'm brewing for 2 I usually make up at LEAST enough for 4 doses but I usually end up making 10 doses now-a-days. It takes a full day to make a proper brew, and by premaking them I save quite a bit of time, and I know exactly what's in my brew and what intentions I have brewed it with.

Caapi brew and even Caapi+admixture plants can last for a long long time in the freezer. A few years if stored correctly. A Caapi only brew can last for decades in the freezer without any noticable change in potency (based on readings at the Aya forum).

Doing it this way allows you know the stregnth of your brew (after your first cerimony) and can estimate the amount needed for the type of journey you want.

Brewing a batch each time you want to journey makes it difficult to gauge the stregnth even if using the same amount of matieral.
 
Thank you so very much for the advice. I am prepared to brew my first batch next week. My birthday is on the 21st of December. The winter solstice. I turn 45. I think this is a good evening to experience this grand old vine for the first time. It will be my first brew. I am excited and anxious. I think I will brew a decent size batch maybe 6 doses. I like the idea of that consistency to form a baseline to work from.

The advice is greatly appreciated.
 
how did you manage to come into possetion of such an old peice of caapi?

swim always wonders whether it is ethically 'right' to harvest such thick, old vine.
 
Beautiful! Is that so old, I can't see too many rings, and I presume the strands grow at the same time then meld together?

About brewing big batches... I have read on aya forums people complaining of their batches weakening when stored, contrary to others saying it keeps for ages... people suspected that it could be chlorine or some other additive in their tap water, so filter your tap water first to be safe.

Freeze it in handy portion sizes. Dreamer kept a batch in the fridge once and black mould started growing on it after a few days (he just scraped it off and drank it anyway, don't know if mould and MAOI are a good idea though :lol: )

The vine I picked up about 4 years ago at Heavenly Products. I have just begun a new journey in life that will eventually involve many voyages with the vine. I never wondered whether or not it was ethically right or not because I dont know the vine really, yet. Is it? Anyone? If it is not ethical, is it also unethical to brew this vine? I am a Noob with a capital N, and I am not being guided. I feel my intentions are pure and genuine as to my reasons for starting this journey. I am not without fear, but I am brave. I will see this journey through. I want to go about this in the right way. I am asking for advice. Anyone?

As far as brewing ayahuasca goes, I am of the persuasion that it should be distilled water anyway.
But if you must use tap water, allowing to stand for 24 hours will allow the chlorine to evaporate.

Its the same question as is it moraly right to gradually sell off areas of any forest for logging.

The two sides of the argument are basically +) we can tend the forest and get it to regrow, so we are allowed to take because we give back
and +) man is inherently just a total consumer, and never gives back as much as he takes.

Btw, Thanks for the reply. I'd sure like to buy some vine like that.
