I nearly blew my face off!!!

Hello everyone, I am very happy to be a new member here and look forward to meeting some cool people.

Well, here is my first post, I nearly blew my face off while smoking!!! Ok, I’m being a little dramatic but I need your help anyways.


So, I was having a smoke out of my “new dmt machine” been used 5-10 times. I loaded up 51mg of D and proceeeded to vape, suddenly the whole end of the bottle burst into flames, presumably ruining all the product (smoked anyways hehe)

I used a four flame cahiba tour here lighter and it was a goo distance away, I’d say 3/4 inches, I never had this happen the last few times the only thing I think is it was only 30mg last few times, or maybe a build up of soothing in the filter, or maybe Something else?

I used 2 concentrate/oil pads from a brand of electric vaporizer as at first I used steel wool but could really taste a metallic taste I didn’t like this at all so ordered that pads.. for me so much better, I have attached some pictures so you can see.

If you have experience or advice and can help me out it would be fanatics!! At the moment I am concerned maybe I have so chemical left over in my product? Product is slightly yellow if that info helps

I am taking a shot in the dark here but could the product carry some impurities that caused this ignition? Or possibly a build up of un-burnt butane that caught fire? I am very curious to hear what you find out to be the problem. I have never run into this but those are the 2 things that instantly come to mind with my very small experience with STB and re-crystallization. And I am glad your O.K. I always error on the side of caution thanks to 15+ years of anxiety disorder lol, so I am super OCD on extractions and safety, for example when I use glass to smoke I have a deep stable solid glass jar sitting next to the bed in a corner where I toss my pipe and lighter while I am still on planet earth so I have yet to have any dangerous physical issues pop up. With all the issues with smoking it in its extract form I have begun to prep some Changa as well, although the sandwich method done properly provided me with a 40mg breakthrough and has been very good since the method has been perfected. Where I live buying an oil pipe or similar is hard to do at any legit smoke shop with ethics... and the shops that do sell them, well you have a very good chance of being stopped in those neighborhoods and screwed with by the men in blue when seen entering/exiting those shops so I build my own too. I could be wrong but I would deff ditch the duct tape as that will heat up as well, and you will be inhaling chemicals from the tape I would expect, which could also be flammable too? Hey DT!!

The only thing I can think of is some sort of impurities.. maybe plant oils or something? Unburnt butane from the lighter I am pretty sure it was not this, the lighter is on a low setting with 4 flames and was inches away from the machine and it was right on the end on the filter that caught fire.

That’s ok you do it thought, safety should always come first. Better safe than sorry!

Regarding the tape, it is not coming in contact with any of the smoke. I have a rubber gasket between the hole drilled in the bottle and the glass tube I suck on, the tape is only to keep it firmly attached. But good point!

Definitely looking forward to blasting off some day

Ahhh got ya the tape is just to hold the mouthpiece in place... The impurities seem like the only logical answer. I did my first re-crystallization and it helped alot and I learned alot. A bunch of awesome info on here on how to clean it up fairly easily. Best of luck on your journeys my friend! And thanks I need the time off, one of those months so I am going to hit the books and afterwords grab a pen and use this beautiful gift of consciousness.

I will looked into that then! Do you recall how much weight you lost, and also did you just use naphtha or did you use heptane? I’m having a hard time sourcing the latter where I am but I know it is the better option!

I used Naptha because it was what I had but from reading looks like heptane is the way to go. My pull was identical in color basically to yours. Sadly this was when my mg scale broke so I had 750mgs left and accurately weighed in the fridge to play with and plenty of integration time until my next journey and MHRB sitting waiting for my journey with Aya I was not so concerned about what I got back but I would ball park it somewhere in the range of 300-400mg but I cannot be sure it seemed in the 60% return range but the product was very very good before hand, the MHRB seemed to be top notch as this was my first time and 5 pulls from 100g got me around 1.3'gs and I paid 0 attention to chem class in school. The Nexus has taught me more than I could imagine. It was almost all white/clear , not perfect but very clean. It basically became a more refined jungle spice, I am currently working on my vacuum system. I have a vacuum pump that's new for doing A/C's on cars I got for very cheap. Its fairly large for a pump and heavy, looks just like what is seen in labs. Once I get my beakers, etc I plan on doing my next extract very refined and more complex. I get excited talking about it LOL it's like backing your bag as Lewis and Clark or some Astronaut getting ready to make the big journey into the unknown. I've been a nerd since I took my first breath so these conversations and ideas always seem to captivate me, hence the long winded responses New scale is in the mail so I will try to get a weight to you. Awww the machine!!!!! Time to build a new one?? Sounds like fun to me Maybe you can look into the problems you faced on this one and refine your design as well? I am looking into heptane and getting some, not too sure about where you are located but here these things are easy to get. Naptha from a hardware store (make sure it does not have impurities) which with Naptha has been easy for me, as I use VM&P Naptha right from the local store. Heptane is still something I am researching and I am far from qualified to give any concrete answers on that, as I am learning and do not want to give out any incorrect info. If you really dig into the Nexus you will find all the answers you need, the issue you are looking at has been discussed in great deal by people much much more knowledgeable then myself. I found a good start for me was Nomans Tek but that was just an into to more, and once I read more and really understood what it meant before I began a process things got very easy. I think that's why my first attempt went so well and in its first pull form as yellow spice it did the trick. I will definitely give it a go and see what happens, but I want to get my hands on some heptane first. Problem is I don’t live in the UK anymore and I’m not sure what it’s called here it will say it on the back like I found with the naphtha but again it was hard to find it out in the beginning!

It sound like a proper little set up you will have! I’m jealous, I got to sit and shake jars hahaha. Yeah new machine needed, this one is less than a week old though I did read a comment once about someone who bought a gvg I think as he was fed up with the glass always cracking, maybe because of the heat cycles I don’t know. Go a mini jack Daniels single barrel select in my hand now, hopefully it’s better quality glass and if it breaks I definitely will be looking for a alternative as drilling the hole in glass really sucks with the bit I have.. it’s not diamond coated it’s called carbide drill bit me thinks... anyways it’s a slow and painful process!

Did the neck of your Machine break before, during or after the fireball incident? Do you think the glass failure caused the release of flammable vapours into the lighter flame?

Does/did your DMT have any residual naphtha smell when in its storage containers?

Also, 3/4" sounds pretty close for holding a multi flame lighter, a single jet would surely be better (i.e. less likely to heat the glass to the point of breaking).

Hey it cracked a little before I smoked when I was heating up the filter before dumping in the product. The glass totally broke later on when I was giving it a “burn off” to clean it out. So the breakage had nothing to do with the things bursting into flames. The flame was far enough way,

Sorry my bad, by 3/4” I meant 3-4” so I think it was far enough away for sure.

I can’t smell any naphtha smell I think, should I maybe try dry it out more just Incase?

Tried to make another machine tonight but the bottle broke after 30 mins of drilling the hole, just ordered some stuff to make “the green Buddha” so shouldn’t have the issue with the glass breaking, unless I drop it

Ok so I checked again.. and actually I think I can still smell naphtha, I payed it out to dry some more, should this be enough or what should I do?

Today I looked for heptane everywhere no luck, so decided to just do the rex with naphtha.

Was left with a lot of orange goo t the bottom of the glass, is this worth keeping in future? I’ve added it to some old dmt containing naphtha I will use for my next pull just Incase

It was very cool blowing on the naphtha when it was in the dish.. crystal clear, blow then watch all the milky solution float around hehe...

Anyways, off it goes in the freezer!

Also managed to get all the bits to make the green Buddha for under $30 but could only get the ceramic flavor disc from US so was a little on top for shipping.
