I think the dmt in my changa turned into salt form?

Hi.... My changa is VERY sticky and will not dry... It is not my first changa, so I find its extremely sticky character very odd.. The only thing that I've done differently this time, is that I had to add more IPA and move everything to a smaller container, since the first container I chose was to big and I could see dmt forming in places where there were no herbs. The changa has been drying in front of a fan for over a week, and in tupperwares with desiccants a couple of days, and the changa will simply not dry..

I don't know if its possible at all, but I have a suspicion that the IPA might have converted the dmt, from freebase crystals to gooy salt.. If it is possible, and u think it is what happened: what can I do to save it?

I infused all my dmt to the blend, so I'm a bit freaked out about it as u might understand
The changa is a 10x changa blend, infused with mint infused IPA. Everything done as described in olys post about changa.

Its possible the IPA eaporated too fast and has left the DMT as an oil..is the new container you used safe?

Sometimes if I over solvent it more than once, the plant oils from the herbs will rise on to the surface and make everything sticky/oily. Or it may be some left over water in the IPA non-anhydrous.

I am also wondering if it can be saved with my thread here... A A/B might work on it but certainly just acetone or IPA won't pull everything from the herbs...

Maybe try smoke the oily residue to determine if it is spice or something else... :surprised

If your IPA had a high percentage of water (say 30%), then there will be a lot of water left over. Since you had to add more IPA this time, it makes sense that it would take longer to dry out the larger amount of water.

No acid was present. I just thought that the IPA it self might be able to do such thing? It was a combination of white and yellowish crystals, so there might have been some NMT in it. All the dmt was extracted from MHRB.

The IPA did evaporate pretty fast. Would it help redissolving, and let it evap slower by setting the fan farther away? The containers I used are definitely safe.. Both glass containers, the last one being lab equipment.

I don't know if I can gather the oily residue by it self so I can smoke it, but the changa I'm left with does not burn well at all, and it tastes very odd. Maybe from being infused with to much mint (i used the mint infused IPA both times), but the taste reminds me of one time where I smoked some changa where the IPA wasn't fully evaporated. Though the IPA was infused with mint that time as well.

How would this A/B be done? warm water bath with some vinegar > basify > pull with naphtha?

I had the idea that I could make the IPA alkaline and pour it over the whole thing and I't would make any oily-dmt turn in to crystals (infused in to the leafs), but it seams that IPA doesn't want to be very alkaline. at least not using sodium carbonate.

The IPA is supposedly 99% and was bought for the occasion. Maybe it sucked in some humidity while infusing the mint, as the jar I used might not have been entirely air proof, since it did spill a bit when I shaked the jar.. And the mint used was dried for tea, so I would think it shouldn't be a high water percentage that would be the problem here? Maybe some oils from the mint or the other herbs I used?

The only excess water that could be present would be from making the 10x caapi.. even though it feeled pretty dry, and was grinded easily and dried further after the enhancement

Usually this oily dampness dries out in time leaving your blend crisp.Don't worry,just be patient and let it do its thing until fully dried and then cure it some more so you are sure no alcohol vapes get through when you decide to try it out.

Very important ,alcohol fumes make you sick and you should make sure they're all out before consuming the blend.One thing you could do to speed up the process is to take a shortcut using warm water baths in which you can sink your changa holding vessel.This way the alcohol flees out quite fast,also the water,leaving behind just the wet plant material that will take another 48hr max to become crisp..

I thought it was the nature of the Caapi leaf extract.

Should I cure while it is sticky as it is now? And just so we understand each other. Curing, is having it in a closed jar, then open for an hour, close for an hour, etc, etc... Some thing like that? :d

-- Meanwhile I've taking a bit aside and tried to do an warm acetone bath and infusing some other leafs. Hoping the acetone absorbed all the dmt from the old changa and infused some new herbs with no caapi enhancement. Hoping this will work

Mine definitely doesn't smoke right.. Not at the moment anyway It will in time!

This is definitely worth a shot. Could it be done in an oven at 50C with the door open, or would I risk vaping the spice?

I would avoid using an oven for this process. Either a cold fan that will speed it up and finish it over one day, either warm water baths that does not exceed 50C.

After this you can take the now damp blend and spread it across a flat dish creating lots of surface area to aid in drying it further.You may start to cure it before or in the time it's becoming crisp.

Curing your Changa-
This is often overlooked but as any good cannabis cultivator will tell you a good cure is the difference between good product and freaking amazing. It’s very important for Changa as well because it not only ensures a fully clean evaporated end product it adds greatly to the flavor and aroma. Take a clean mason jar or baby jar and put you fully dried Changa in it closing the lid. Let it sit for a few hours and open it. You will smell moist Changa and possibly hints of IPA. Leave the lid off for a few hours and repeat. Do this as many times as needed. I cure my Changa for about at least a week. After you cure is complete place the Changa in a sealed jar in the fridge. Freezer for long term storage that being a year or more.

I will make the hot water bath right away, and I believe I can start curing soon. I have already spread it across some glass trays, so no stacking is going on, and attached baggies of silica gel on the lid. It is getting less sticky already yay!
