Hi, I have read muricata makes a 'red' brew, so that should be one way to tell. my ethnobotanical sample is supposedly a black trueno (thunder) muricata, but, I've also heard caapi named this variety. Is there any way to tell if my sample is indeed muricata?

I just read that muricata means 'like a murex' in latin. a murex is a 'A predatory tropical marine mollusk, the shell of which bears spines and forms a long narrow canal extending downward from the aperture'

now where did those muricata threads go. . .

well does it look just like caapi, only a little more reddish tint to the wood? If you brew it and it makes a blood red brew that gets darker and darker as you brew and reduce it than chances are it is muricata IME.
