Dear all,

As you may know, the old forum is widely abused by spam-bots.

The only way out of this spam-bot hell is to move to another forum-platform. For me the obvious choice is yaf (yey another forum). This is an open source forum coded in the language I use for work (C# ASP.NET). If needed I can change this forum to our needs and can even create extra anti-bot code!

This new forum is also faster and you can upload files and some more improvements.

Now for the bad part:
I've looked into ways to convert the messages from the old forum to this new forum and even though I have years of experience (maybe because I've years of experience) I'm only converting the users to this new board and NOT the messages!

The messages are just too much work for me to handle as a single person and I simply don't have the time to create nice scripts.



The change will be like this:

* The link of the old forum will be redirected to the new forum
* The old forum will be locked in place and will stay available to view on a read only basis at http://www.dmt-nexus.me/forumOLD
* The current moderators will be moderators of the whole forum

Ok,

Once thing changed: I converted loads of messages from the old to the new forum. Some messages are lost in translations and also the markup of the messages isn't correct for the new forum but the message (pun intended) is there.

good luck in the battle. I am sure most of us would rather repost than have to wade through the bad english porn spam.

It's not only the spambots, it's also the platform. This board is made in ASP.NET with C# which as it happens to be is my main working languange. So if anything has to be changed to this open source board its much faster, easier, better, etc as before.

I prefer PHP over ASP. Cant tell whats going on behind the scenes with ASP, when there is any error. To each their own tho :)

There's a HUUUGE difference between ASP (classic) and asp.net. With asp.net debugging is charming and easy, behind the scenes is as clear as water. Also with C# you write much better code compared to vb-script (or PHP for that matter).

But you are right: to each their own. ;)
