A buddy i know had a few fully colonized 1 Qt jars with popcorn. He didn't need them so he took them out of the incubator and had them sitting out for much longer than he originally intended to, before discarding them.

To his surprise one of them ended up having quiet a few fruits growing right on corn. One other one also had a small mushie in it.

I had no idea that was even possible, everywhere i looked on the internet, that is not supposed to happen.

Just wanted to see if anyone has heard of anything growing straight on grain, invitro??

This isn't surprising. Once your jars are fully colonized, your mycelium are essentially ready to fruit. If you crumble and case they take longer to fruit because the mycelium have to reestablish their network, grow, and then fruit. If you have conditions for fruiting (high rh and some semblance of lighting) these cakes can be birthed and fruited almost instantaneously in a fruiting chamber. In your case it sounds like you had some of the conditions for fruiting and the cake was ready to fruit (understandable given the high humidity of the jar and the time elapsed since colonization) so it did. You can either birth your cakes and continue fruiting or you can pick your fruits and crumble and case or do the whole bulk substrate shebang. Grain cakes are fun, I love experimenting with fruiting conditions and setups.

Have Fun, Guy 😉

Thank you for your feedback SnozzleBerry, and yes you are right it is fun!

I have one more quesiton for someone with some knowledge. When it comes to Panaeolus Cyanescens, is it possible to consume its mycelia from like a quart jar for a good experience?

I have heard people doing that with cubes, and since cyanescens are much harder to grow would seem like a semi reasonable thing to do. The main concern would be, i guess, if rougly the same ammount of mycelium would be needed for an experience as cubes?

Or i suppose someone could just find a good tek and take it from there.
