Recently, the discussion about a possible greek referendum has made some headlines.
Basically, the whole financial world and all of europe´s political elite went into a massive panick mode that caused some chaos on financial markets, etc.
The assumption must be that the common man is not capable of making a proper judgement about greek´s financial and thus political situation and the current global financial reality we live in.
If that is the case, then i wonder: why is the common man, joe the plumber, joe average, put on a pedestal so much by politicians as well as the tea-party movement as well as the occupy movement? Why is he given the right to vote then?
Why do we only hold the political and financial elites responsible for the current financial situation america and europe are in?
Is the common man not responsible for his own financial situation?
-In america the common man lived of his creditcard and/or his mortgage instead of his income.
-In california he voted in referenda for lower taxes and higher public spending.
-In italy he made silvio berlusconi prime minister, for four times.
-in greece, the common man has voted for the current government and the previous governments that have created the debth situation.
How can the common man get so much opportunity to fuck-up his own world through elections and financial liberties and not ever be held responsible for the mess he makes, in any way?
To me it seems that you´re either too stupid to be held responsible for your own actions and in that case you shouldn´t be burdened with responsibility´s at all....or you´re not, and then you shouldn´t complain about the consequences of your own choices.
In my view, joe the plumber is as much the victim as the cause of the financial crisis and the occupy movement shouldn´t picture him as merely a helpless victim. He voted for both bush and obama, lived of his creditcard and closed mortgages he wouldn´t have ever been able to pay for.
I think that as long we keep seeing ourselves as helpless victims, we´ll keep creating these disasters. The elites are tired, lazy and are never gonna change their ways as long as the common man keeps supporting him.
It´s not just wall street, but joe the plumber who´s got to change as well.
