Just an amateur question

Well, It was about a fortnight ago that SWIM had attempted his 1st extraction from MHRB, using what was believed to be a STB tek... The results were amazing despite yielding nothing of a consumable quantity. Using only distilled water, Caustic soda (NaOH) and Zippo lighter fluid for the NP phase, the whole process was rushed as SWIM was really anxious and had little if any chemistry knowledge at his disposal. Also, only having a quantity of 52g of MHRB proved inefficient especially with a lack of information, as well as having no turkey baster or anything similar to separate the layers and whatever crystals had risen to the surface. Although disappointed with not succeeding in SWIM's attempt, the entire process was just as fulfilling - despite having permanently ruined the carpet in SWIM's bedroom due to general clumsiness, spilling chemicals on the floor... (no biggie!) So, as of last night on impulse around 2am, SWIM ordered another quantity of 112g of MHRB, and the impedimental question that arose was: "Was that tek the appropriate choice, although having approached it with a lax attitude - or should more research into various other teks begin in order to find the most suitable?"

Take a look at the q21q21 dry tek 2. It is a great tek and it's safe and easy. Sounds like you might want to avoid using NaOH. Read through the wiki. You can learn a lot in an evening. Have fun and take your time.

I also recommend Q21Q21's tek as it's the basis for the slightly modified tek I've created. As mentioned it's safe, and easy. Also I don't need a turkey baster because since it's a "dry tek" it's much easier to separate the layers by simply pouring the naptha off from the rest. Using a coffee filter while pouring off the naptha really helps because it should catch any MHRB particles that may fall out.
