Today i got delivered some lab equipment i had ordered.
I'm new at this with extractions and chemistry but one must start somewhere, right?

So first i got a 1000ml separatory funnel with PTFE stopcock.
I guess this one will be very useful.
And then i got a quite OK glassware set with 4 round bottom flasks, distilling column and 3 different condensers and some other stuff including 250ml sep/addition funnel.
I also got an vacuum filtration set with a hand pump, buchner funnel and 1000ml flask.
I include some pics.
The small separatory funnel got a glass stopcock.
One should add some lubricant to this stopcock when it is made from glass.
What type is good to use?

I already have beakers, earlenmayer flasks and some other stuff.
I will soon order a good hotplate/stirrer and some additional lab stuff and then im ready to start experimenting.
Im really looking forward to do some stuff, it will be very fun.

silicone, high vacuum grease. you want to put that on all ground glass joints. It resists high temps and is chemically inert.

Excellent, thank you.
I will pick some up a.s.a.p.

Nice!

I wish you luck with the handpump. Those manual vac pumps have failed me. Especially the ones made of plastic. Those car break bleeder things, made from steel, worked well for some time. But it broke too after some use. (Vacuum purging BHO)
I ended up with buying an electric single stage vac for 60€ on ebay. Waaaaay better. Should have bought it at first. For me I found out that if I buy cheap I often buy twice. :p

A 1000ml separatory funnel will be the next thing I get, thanks for the reminder!

Tnx everyone

I have ordered a high quality hotplate/stirrer, it looks beautiful but costed me 200 Euro.
I also ordered flasks, lab stands, filterpapers, reagent bottles and other stuff.

I also picked up a can of startgas for cars and engines.
And i tried get the diethylether out of it by spraying it into a round bottom flask who i had put in cold water.
It worked but goddamn, i almost fainted and only got out 125ml diethyleter from the startgas can.
An expensive way to get ether i have found out.

congrats on your score.
it's a great set of tools, very versatile for all sorts
of techniques.

don't fret when you eventually break glass, it happens (unfortunately).
just take care of your equipment, and store the glass in drawers or boxes
with foam peanuts.

feel free to ask any questions about setup, methods, and solvents.

Does one always have to grease the joints or only if doing like vacuum distillations?

Now i have ordered a kilo of Acacia Confusa RB so now i am going to study extraction methods for this one.
I better start with small amounts until i get my extraction method working good.
I'm new to all this with chemistry and extractions.
I must order some rue seeds also.

well i start trying the plastic hand pump.
I know where to buy a real good large vacuum pump if i need one.
How about these vacuum aspirators you put on a water connection, they not work good or they give to little vacuum?
I'm so looking forward to my coming hotplate, the other lab stuff and of cause the kilo of ACRB.
Tomorrow i am going to go buy some solvents and acids.
